C'rin

C'rin

When he’d heard that not one but _two_ women had Impressed to blue dragons, C’rin hadn’t thought much about it. He didn’t really care who flew on a dragon as long as they could catch firestone sacks and not drop any on his head.

It was the names that started floating around.

“Oh yeah, N’kevyn and Aydhan’s daughter… What’s her name, Nikaydhan?”

“No, idiot, N’kayden is the boy. The girl is, uh… Aydhevyn, or something like that.”

“Yeah, she was one of the girls that Impressed a blue, but there was another. Someone from the Stands.”

“Cerenie, or something.”

C’rin’s ears had perked up at that. The name wasn’t quite right, but close enough with the accuracy of the gossipers so far. **But what would Cirina have been doing at Barrier Lake?** Then things started falling in place. **She _is_ best friends with that goldrider’s daughter….**

And so, the brownrider decided he would take a little field trip to Barrier Lake. Poke around. Maybe say hello to some old River Bluff acquaintances, and see for himself who these two girls on blues were.

One of the blues was lounging out in the sun near the weyrling barracks, grey-blue hide shining with fresh oil. Cirina was sitting in front of him with one of his front legs across her lap, and seemed to be fussing with his claws with some kind of file.

“There,” she declared, “I think I fixed that rough spot but you need to be more careful!”

The little blue inspected his foot, seemingly satisfied, and then promptly put as much of his head as would fit into her lap.

}: Awww, he’s so little and cute,:{ Dasveth said to C’rin as they flew a low sweep over the barrier lake and came in for a landing near the Weyrling area.

C’rin couldn’t believe his eyes. His sister. Sitting with a dragonet. _Her_ dragonet and he’d missed it!

“So, you ever planning on telling your big brother you were a dragonrider?” he asked while striding toward Cirina.

Cirina looked up, surprised, then gently pushed Saejith’s head out of her lap to rush towards her brother. “You didn't tell me you were coming!” It took a moment for his words to really register, and then she frowned. “Didn't you get my note? Digger came back empty handed. Er. Clawed.”

Which, in hindsight, was now suspicious.

“Well, you're here now!” She gave him a hug, but pulled away quickly to say, “This is Saejith. He's blue, but he's perfect.”

Saejith approached cautiously, then gave C’rin a gentle bump with his head.

The brownrider inspected the young blue as his dextrous fingers scratched along Saejith’s eyeridge. “He’s beautiful, Ciri. I wish I could have been here to see your Impression.”

“Oh yeah, you’d have laughed. I fell trying to get out onto the Sands. Just splat. You’d have loved it,” she didn’t seem bothered by her slightly embarrassing entrance as a dragonrider. “And I guess I elbowed some wingleader in the face getting down there so uh, hope that doesn’t become a problem.”

“With your luck, you’ll be placed into that Wingleader’s wing come graduation,” he laughed. Dasveth’s big brown nose came butting in and he peered down at the blue dragonet.

}:Well met, Saejith.:{ The brown had been patiently waiting to be introduced, but it seemed as if his rider would never stop with the pleasantries.

“Have Mom or Dad come to visit?” C’rin asked.

}:Hello Dasveth!:{ The name was easy to pull from Cirina’s mind, and as soon as C’rin had finished his inspections, Saejith moved to let the brown inspect him, doing a little bouncy twirl. }:We were waiting for you to visit.:{ Well, Cirina had been, and that meant he had been too.

“Mum yes, Dad is going to visit next rest day. Time zones and busy schedules, y’know. Viseya- the weyrlingmaster second- she’s from Riverbluff, so she ratted me out to them like immediately.”

“Good, I’m glad she did. We’re thrilled for you, Ciri,” her older brother said, pulling her into a hug.

}:We didn’t know about you,:{ Dasveth admitted to Saejith, }:but it was a nice surprise.:{

}:I should have said something, but I didn’t know,:{ Saejith said, with only the slightest hint of guilt. }:But you’re here now. Look, I’m already practicing flying!:{ The little blue gave a hop, and a flap of his wings. }:I’m supposed to practice so I don’t keep tripping on them.:{

Cirina returned the hug with all her strength. “I’m so excited. I knew my dragon would find me. I didn’t quite expect this, but he’s just… he’s so perfect.” To the side, Saejith gave another dramatic flapping hop.

C’rin laughed at the sight. “He’s got quite a set of wings to grow into.” Memories of Dasveth at that size came flooding back. It had only been four Turns since he Impressed, but in many ways, thanks to River Bluff’s fall, it felt like much longer.

}:Try puffing your chest out a bit and tilting your wings up and back when you hop,:{ Dasveth suggested to Saejith.

Saejith spent a moment arranging himself, and then proceeded to give a few more hops. }:Oh, that is better. You’re brilliant!:{

Cirina couldn’t help the laughter that burst out of her at that. “He really is easily impressed. It’s nice.”

“You have time for a bite to eat?” C’rin suggested.

“Oh, yeah! The food here isn’t bad, come on. Saejith should be napping before afternoon lessons anyway.” Giving her brother’s arm a tug, she headed in the direction of the Dining Hall.
