Description: N’kevyn surprises Liannor with dinner to make up for being busy
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 13, day 23 of Turn 12
Now that the eggs had hatched and his schedule was returning to normal, N’kevyn had been trying to come up with something to do to make up for not having been able to join Liannor on any adventures outside of the Weyr for the last month. The past month had revolved around Avicath, and Avicath’s life had revolved around the eggs- the bronze took his job as babysitter more seriously than he took anything else.
He’d considered an exciting hike, or re-attempting a climb that had been thwarted by an unexpected rainfall on their last outing. A month spent mostly in a chair on the Sands hadn’t left him in his most peak condition, however, so he had decided to play to his less physical strengths.
His first trip to Liannor’s weyr that day had been with only a basket of ingredients. Grinning to himself, he’d stripped down to bare skin, pulled on an apron, and started opening cupboards.
It had taken only a few minutes to discover that most of them were empty and none of them had any spices, however. With a sigh, he’d re-dressed and left the greenrider’s ludicrously large weyr, raiding his own spice cabinet and hoping Aydhan wouldn’t somehow decide tonight was the night she was going to learn to cook. After a moment’s consideration, he also took his favorite pan before heading back to Liannor’s weyr.
And that was how Liannor found him- standing in front of her stove, steaks frying in a pan while he chopped vegetables, clad only in an apron that said “YOU’LL LOVE MY MEAT”. The fragrant smell of spices filled the air. He glanced over but didn’t turn when he heard footsteps coming, “I’m afraid this is taking a little longer than I expected. Are you aware the only thing in your spice cabinet was an almost empty jar that might once have been salt?”
It was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Liannor paused at the threshold of her weyr, leaning against the archway as she blatantly admired the view with a slow, feline smile. “Honestly, I only took these quarters so I could turn the second bedroom into an office. Getting a kitchen was incidental. I don’t cook if I can help it.”
That did make him turn, still armed with the knife (that he clearly knew how to use- for its intended purposes). “It must be nice to have connections in high places. Do you know how hard I had to work to get my own kitchen? And here you are wasting it. Cooking is a valuable and rare skill at a Weyr, you know.”
“At a Weyr certainly, but not at a cothold, or on the road as a journeyman. I’ve _had_ to cook enough in my life to appreciate someone else doing it for me.” Pushing off the wall she closed the distance, coming to catch him by the front of his apron and pull him down into a kiss. “Especially when they come so wonderfully dressed.”
“Cooking on the road hardly counts,” N’kevyn tsked, “it’s not fun unless you have the right tools. And the right setting. This,” he gestured at her kitchen, “is the right setting. I did find you were decidedly lacking in the tools, however. Thankfully, I have my own.”
“You’re in for a treat,” he said, with no shame whatsoever, “you haven’t lived until you’ve tried my meat. Get it. My meat?” He puffed out his chest enough to draw attention to the apron. “And I hope you didn’t have plans this evening. I have salad, the main dinner, dessert…. Dessert in the bedroom,” he grinned. “My evening is free, and entirely devoted to making sure you are very satisfied.” If the apron was bad, the eyebrow waggle was worse. “Now, for the potatoes… roasted, or baked?”
“Roasted.” Lightly tracing a finger over the words on his broad chest, Liannor grinned. “But just a small one. I want to save room for dessert.”
