Characters: M'tias, Eilomar
Description: M'tias comes to join Eilomar's ensemble
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 12, day 25 of Turn 3

"Sir?" M'tias entered the master singers office quitly. "I was told that you would be teaching the dragonriders for turn's end?"

"Yes, I'm gathering an ensamble from dragonriders, IF I can find people who can actually sing and play in harmony," the Master answered, his tone pessimistic. He was playing with conductor's wand.

"Well sir, I've some harper training and I'd like to take part."

"Can you sing? Or play some instrument?" Eilomar asked. He eyed the boy up and down. He looked young enough to still be a boy-soprano.
That thought brightened his mood a little.

"I can't really play anything, but I do like to sing."

"All right..." Eilomar started to rummage thru his desk and pulled out a sheet of music. He handed it to the young brownrider. "Sing this,"
he told.

Takeing a breath, as he's been trained to do, M'tias followed the score in front of him. He hadn't been trained for long and lost some of that traing in the two turns after impressing Woeth but his voice was still obviouly a clear sorano.

"Okay, you have a good voice," Eilomar complimented almost reclutantly. "However, your breathing is all wrong and your singing tecnique leaves lot to hope for. How long you have been studying harpering?"

"I appreticened two turns ago, but a searchrider came to the Hall and I impressed Woenth. I've been working with the weyrlings and just got permission from teh hall second to pick up my training agian. I've with work with L'pin."

"This L'pin is not a singer, I presume?" Eilomar asked.

"No sir, he's the weyrlingmasters wingsecond and an archiviest."

"I thought so. So, you're as good as non-trained, as singing goes,"
Eilomar said, not hiding his disgust for such a waste.

M'tias flinched. "I've had Woenth to care for sir." he tried to explain.

Eilomar waived his explanations aside. "You have potential, and an excellent teacher, like me, could train a real singer of you."

"What about my wing duties." he knew training to be singer took work, and lots of it.

"You have to priorisize. Do you want to be singer or a dragonrider?"
Eilomar replied. His tone indicated that he prefered M'tias to choose singing.

M'tias got the tone and it made him blink, How could he be anything other than a dragonrider? "I would like to learn to sing, but I don't see how that would make me _not_ a rider."

"Well, of course you always have your dragon. But you won't have much free time if you start seriously train your singing skills with me."

M'tias was stunned. He wasn't sure how the Weyrlingmaster would take it. However, if he wasn't do to join the wings for a while yet...

"Well, you don't have to make up your mind right now," Eilomar said amiably. "But you will be joining the ensemble, won't you?"

"Yes sir, that's why I came to see you. I wasn't sure what I should do, but I guess I could sing."

"I'll make sure you can sing," Eilomar promised. "The ensemble's next practise is on restday, fifth candlemark afternoon. Don't be late," he told.

"I won't sir."

"Good," Eilomar said, dismissing him with a wave of a hand.
