Rigella stick her head inside the healer's office. "Journeyman Kharis, do you have a time for extra patient or should I just book a reservation into your schedule?" she asked. "Ah, Rigella! Come on in. What do you need?" Kharis asked, setting his hidework aside.

"I need someone to exam me, I suspect I'm pregnant," Rigella explained with apologetic voice. "Oh, well, we'd better find out for sure," the journeyman said with a reassuring smile. "Would this be... a surprise?" Kharis hadn't heard of Rigella having a particular someone in her life that he could recall...

"Yes, a big one, " the healer apprentice replied dryly. "I've not been thinking straight lately and I've forgotten the...precautions. My own sharding fault." "Have you thought about what you would like to do if you find out that you are pregnant?" Kharis asked gently.

Rigella groaned. "No, not yet," she sighed. The journeyman nodded his understanding. He knew it had not been an easy few months for Rigella. "Well, lets just find out for sure first, shall we?"

"Yes," Rigella answered shortly, with a voice people used when they were facing a certain doom. "Now, what symptoms are you showing?" "Well, my menstruation is several sevendays late, my lower belly has a mild ache, like during menstruation and my breasts are sore. And I can't stand klah anymore," Rigella listed them out. "_Several_ sevendays?" Kharis asked in surprise. He would have thought Rigella would know long before now she should be checked by a healer. "Yes, well, I've been distracted and not paid any attention, until recently, when I started to study my calendar..." "Ah," the healer said with an understanding nod. "Well, why don't you go to the examination room, slip into a gown, and let me check you to be sure."

"Yes, sir," Rigella replied. She knew the drill, even if she had rarely been patient herself. It didn't take her long to change. She let him know when she was ready. She was surprised by her own nervousness. "Would you like me to ask one of the female apprentices to stand by while I examine you?" He knew some women were a little uncomfortable about being examined so intimately by a male healer.

"No. The less people know about this, the better," Rigella said. "All right then, Rigella," Kharis said gently. "You just lay back and try to relax. This won't take long."

Rigella covered her eyes with her arm and concentrated on her breathing, taking deep breath's in and out, forcing her body to relax. Kharis conducted the exam with the speed and efficiency his turns of experience had brought him. "All right, Rigella. I can tell you now, you are pregnant. Why don't you get dressed, and then come to my office and we'll talk."

Rigella just nodded. After the healer had left, she just sat there, staring the wall for few minutes. The she shook herself and dressed up, joining the healer in his office. "So, what now?" "Well, that, my dear, is up to you," the journeyman said gently. "You know your options, you know what physically would happen, intellectually at least. This isn't a decision anyone can make for you, and it also isn't a decision you need to make right away. I would suggest that you take a couple days, discuss this with your mother, the baby's father, or whoever you feel comfortable talking to, and give yourself a moment to think about it."

Rigella nodded. She felt like some sort of automatic thing. Her mind was detaching itself from the situation. "I know this was unexpected, Rigella," Kharis said, leaning forward to touch her arm gently, "but there are people who will help you through this, whatever you decide to do. And you can come talk to me any time."

"Yes, sir. Seems like I have a lot of thinking to do." "It will be all right, Rigella," the journeyman said with an encouraging smile. "And for the hundredth time, you don't have to call me 'sir'".

"See, that badly upset I am" Rigella managed a smile. "You don't have to make any decisions today, Rigella. Like I said, you do have time. But don't do this alone."

"All right," She nodded.
