Fielton

Fielton

Daigoro paced outside the newly polished door of the Hallmaster. He could still smell the fumes of fresh paint and varnish and he wondered briefly if it was that or his nervousness that was making him feel slightly light headed. Shards and shells, was there _no_ one else he could talk to about this? No, they would all laugh at him. They would never let him live it down. He and Fielton may not be good friends, but he could at least trust the Hallmaster to be discrete. Grabbing onto a thread of courage, he finally knocked on the door and entered.

"Good evening Fielton. I hope I am not disturbing anything important,"
the Hallsecond said in as steady a voice as he could manage.

Fielton was working on setting his new office to rights, but paused to give Daigoro a weary smile. "If you can find a seat, pull one up. I could use a break."

"Thank you," Daigoro said as he picked a piled of papers off of a chair and sat in it. On second thought he would rather stand he decided as he sprang back up out of the chair. "Your office is coming along nicely."

"Slow and steady," Fielton replied, hefting a stack of hidework onto the top of a brand new wooden cabinet. He moved another stack from his chair to his desk, and sank into a sitting position wearily. "What brings you to visit?"

"Oh... Well," Daigoro said as he walked over to the bookshelf to pretend to admire the array of book when in actuality he was trying to convince himself not to run back out the door. "You know my marriage to Cinale is coming up soon..."

"Mmmmm. And you two found a cot that you wanted for your own, didn't you?" He wasn't going to love Cinale moving away from the Hall, but he would rather that happen than have her stop cooking all together.

"Yes," Daigoro nodded absently. That certainly wasn't what he had come to talk about. "Ah... You see the reason I've come this evening..." He wipped at his brow nervously. "The reason... is complicated... but I hope you can... help me.."

"Shards, man. Sit down!" He couldn't imagine what was making Diagoro so nervous he couldn't get a word out.

Daigoro did as he was ordered to, but his hands rubbed nervously at his knees. "I am not a fool, Fielton. Nor am I a complete innocent. But...
I am at a loss, and I need some... advice from one who has been married before."

"Oh." Fielton's eyebrows went up as he watched his Hallsecond fidget for a few more moments. "Oh... I see." He might have expected the question to make him uncomfortable, but instead he felt sympathy for Daigoro. He could remember taking his first wife to bed and how his inexperience had made him uncomfortable. He'd been a good deal younger than Daigoro at the time, but it seemed clear to him that being the experienced one in his second marriage had started things off on the right foot.

Clearing his throat, Fielton sat back in his chair. "What, exactly, did you want to know?"

"Shards, I don't even know," Daigoro groaned as he rested his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands. "I know the basics of course but how to actually put into practice... Shards, I should have done something about this turns ago..."

Fielton was sort of thinking the same thing. "Well, I'm not sure what you want me to tell you. I mean, you don't want... details, do you?"
Shards, what would he do if Daigoro said yes?

"No, no... Well... maybe..." Shards, stupid, _stupid_, Daigoro! Why did he have to mention anything at all! Too late now. "But how do I...
make it good for her?"

It was hard for Fielton to decide if he felt smug that he knew the answer, or terrified that he was supposed to _explain_ it. His ears turned a little pink as he cleared his throat again. "Well, you should go slow.
Especially if she's nervous." Daigoro wouldn't know what was fast or slow. He would try of course to make it last as long as possible. The brewer knew at least that much.
But how fast was slow? "About how long should... this whole process...
take?"

"I never _timed_ it, Daigoro!" Fielton snapped, annoyed that the color in his ears was creeping into his cheeks. Shards, maybe he was twice married, but there were some things you just _did not_ talk about!
Especially not with other men.

Daigoro was beginning to wonder if talking to someone was really much help after all. "All right, then how do I know... what she wants me to do?"

Badia had never had any problems letting him know exactly what she wanted. Fielton wasn't quite ready to imagine Cinale doing the same thing, however. He wasn't ready to imagine Cinale doing anything but baking.
"Well, just pay attention to her, I guess. To how she's acting. Shards, if you know her well enough to be marrying her, you should be able to tell if she's...
enjoying herself." Pay attention. Make sure she's enjoying herself... "Is there anything I _shouldn't_ do?"

Fielton ground his teeth together and decided he'd had enough of this conversation. "You shouldn't act nervous, Daigoro. Shards, you'll be fine." And if he wasn't, Fielton certainly didn't want to know about it!

Daigoro crossed his arms across his chest. Now Fielton was being _less_
then helpful. "Come on, Fielton. Weren't you scared out of your mind you'd do something wrong your first wedding night? I mean, what if I mess it up and she decides she doesn't like it and resents that part of our marriage? Eighty turns is a long time to be sleeping next to an unwilling woman..."

The Hallmaster's expression went cold. "Then maybe you're asking the wrong man, Daigoro. I thought everyone loved to gossip about where my first wife ended up."

"Well, that's true," Daigoro shrugged. He didn't want to mention that if anyone knew what _not_ to do a wedding night, it should have been Fielton... His second attempt seemed to have been much more successful.
The Hallmaster had seen both sides of the spectrum. Wouldn't that have made him the _perfect_ person to talk to? "But I trust you wouldn't be speaking about any of this to the lads.... They'd laugh at me for turns if they knew..."

"Trust me, Daigoro. I plan to forget this entire conversation. As soon as possible."
