U'kaiah looked up as Kamira walked into the office space he shared with other Weyrlingmaster Assistants. "Good afternoon, Kamira. Thank you for coming. The Weyrlingmaster has assigned me to give you your progress report." Which would be uncomfortable to say the least.

Kamira took a seat as directed without looking at U'kaiah. "Thank you Weyrling Staffrider U'kaiah." She said rather formally and quietly.
After that she remained still and waited to hear what it was he had to say.

U'kaiah fought the urge to roll his eyes. Just when would she grow-up?
"You're welcome Senior Greenrider Weyrling Kamira. Now can we put our personal grievances aside so we can do this? Please?"

"There's nothing I'd love to do more than to move on and forget about all this," she sighed, but said no more. She had said too much to him over the past few sevendays and she wasn't about to say anymore.

"Good," he said with a curt nod. "Now, your report is good. Tayanth is well cared for and is growing stronger by the day. She flies well, and you ride her well, which is good to see."

"Thank you." She said gently, still not looking directly at him as much as she was his forehead and shoulders.

"Sometimes drills have been a little hard for you to visualize, but you've improved a lot, so there are no worries there," U'kaiah continued as he scanned the report sheet in front of him. "You might need to spend a little extra time studying new wing formation ahead of time, though."

She nodded her head. "I will be sure to spend extra time reviewing them.
Thank you for the feed back." Kamira sighed a little and wished that she could just go back to joking and laughing with him like she used to.

"As far as discipline... Well, we both know what happened. Luckily its a fairly minor incident and won't have an effect on your permanent record really." It was part of the report, but he hated bringing it up.
They had been such good friends before that night... "Other than that, though, your conduct has been exemplary."

"I'm glad to hear that that incident will have no critical affect on my future as a full wingrider." She locked eyes with him for the first time in the interview. "I'm already quite disappointed to see how it's affected other areas of my life."

"There are natural consequences to every choice we make, Kamira. How you decide to deal with them is up to you." The bronzerider was no more happy than she was.

She nodded. He was telling her that the damage was unrepairable. Things would never go back to the way they were. "I understand." She said meekly; she knew that she should go, but she couldn't bring herself to leave...

"Can you... accept the way things are? I mean, the consequences?" he asked gently, searching her face for any glimmer that they could go back to the way things had been. He was so tired of loosing friends.

"No." She said it without thought and without hesitation. "Can you?" She looked at him for the second time.

"I _can_ accept it. I don't want to," he admitted as his eyes met hers.
"I want things to be like they were."

"I do, too. But... can we?" She wasn't sure she wanted to hear the response.

U'kaiah shrugged. "Only if you want to."

** He just _shrugged_!** That certainly got Kamira's attention. **HOw can he just _shrug_ about something like this?!**

}: Kamira, don't take it like that. It's that temper of yours that got you into trouble in the first place. Please calm down. :{ Kamira shrugged a shoulder back. "Sure." If he was going to be like that, she could, too.

It wasn't quite the reconciliation he was hoping for. But at least she didn't say 'no'... "Good. I don't like fighting between friends."

"I suppose it wasn't so much of 'fighting' as it was me repeatedly abusing you verbally..." She tried to joke to help things along.

He smiled slightly. "Well, whatever it was, I didn't much like it."

"I don't imagine that you would have..." She looked at the floor again.

"You and I have been friends a long time, Kamira. I would hate for that to be ruined by anything." Especially by something so stupid.

**And I do?** she shoved the words down in her throat, knowing that to be friends with U'kaiah again was really what she wanted in the end. "I would, too. So let's not let it happen."

Well, it still wasn't comfortable, but it was a start anyway...
