Description: Kiomo meets Fieayz on a walk about the Hold
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 13, day 1 of Turn 3
Arva soared through the air, chasing and dancing her way ahead of her owner. Fieayz followed behind, out on a walk over to the main hold itself.
Kiomo could hear footsteps behind him as he walked down the road back towards the Hold. He was used to having the road to himself most day when he was out on his daily walk, and so he turned to look over his shoulder at the young woman coming up behind him. "Well, hello there.
I haven't met you on this road before."
"Nor have I met you either," she replied.
"That would indeed make sense," he chuckled. "Are you from the Hold then? Or from the Hall?"
"From the Hall, I foster with Hallmaster Daynar."
"With the _Hallmaster_, eh?" Kiomo asked, obviously impressed. "You must come from a very powerful family yourself. Or at least are related to one."
"My Papa is the Vintner Hallmaster," she said proudly.
"That is quite a family to be from," he nodded appreciatively. It was not surprising, since many youths were fostered out, often to find marriage alliances. "And how long have you been fostered at the Smith Hall?"
"A little while now," she replied. "Might I ask how long you have been here at Garnet Valley?"
"About the same," he shrugged.
"Then I wonder why we never met before."
"Well, probably because you stay to the Hall and I stay to the Hold."
He really should get over to the Hall a bit more. "But I'm happy that we finally have run into each other."
"My name is Fieayz," she said with a smile. "And it has been nice to meet you..." Her voice trailed off as she realized he still hadn't introduced himself. From his knots he was obviously fairly highly ranked in the Hold itself.
"Kiomo, son of Bereki, former Lord Holder of Ancient Stones Hold. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said with saucy grin. He rarely pulled out his full title, but he felt it was prudent in case she decided she could put on airs around him. She didn't seem the type, but it never hurt to give fair warning. After all, he knew who _she_ was now...
"Well met Kiomo," she said somewhat formally. "This little lady here is Arva."
"A pleasure, Arva," he smiled as he reached out to run his finger over the little gold's head. "So where are you two lovely ladies heading today then, Fieayz?"
"Over to the Hold for a walk, I just wanted to get some air."
"Well, allow me to escort you," Kiomo smiled as he held out his arm to her politely, as respect of her rank demanded.
"Thank you," she said taking it. "Might I ask what you do at the Hold?"
"I am the personal assistant to Lord Ishek," he replied. "Have you met the Lord Warder yet?"
That sounded impressive, she thought. "I have," she said. "At his welcome banquet."
It made sense. Kiomo hadn't been at the Hold at that time himself.
That was a while ago. "I hear the Vintner Hall has moved to Amber Hills Hold. I hope your family is all right, after the earthquake and all."
"I had a letter from them. My father, my sister and my brother are all okay."
"It must have been difficult being so far away from home at a time like that," he said sympathetically. The next time she went home, 'home' would be completely different from what she remembered it to be...
"My father's wife, she was at the Hold when the quake happened."
"I'm very sorry," Kiomo said gently. "Were you close?"
"No, not really. Mama, my Mama is at River Bluff Weyr," she admitted.
"Ah, I see." He turned slightly to study her curiously. "Have you been to the Weyr to visit her?"
"Not in a while." She don't want to admit straight off that she had stayed at the weyr for a few months, some men reacted as though that was a bad thing. "I've been to a few Weyrs myself," Kiomo continued conversationally. "Did you ever get to see a Hatching?"
"No, I wanted to, but it hasn't happened."
"Well, if you know anyone at the Weyr, perhaps you can find a way to go.
I'm sure your mother would be happy to have you visit. They really are a lot of fun," he said, grinning at the memory. "The food is wonderful, everyone's all dressed up, and the dancing is phenomenal. Almost as good as Turns End."
"You stood at a hatching?" she asked curiously.
"Oh no," he said with a shake of his head. "But I was present for quite a few. First with my father and then later when I lived at the Weyr. Not for very long, mind you, but long enough to see a couple Hatchings."
"Which Weyr was it, my uncle is a brownrider."
"Several, actually," he chuckled. "Where is he at?"
"River Bluff, like Mama."
"I never lived there," Kiomo said with a shake of his head. "Although I may have a friend or two there now."
"Perhaps one day I might meet them if I visit my Uncle."
"Did you enjoy your time at the Weyr?" he asked curiously.
"I did, but I missed my Papa, and my baby brother."
"It must be hard to be so far away from them now. You are always welcome at the Hold should you ever feel lonely or out of place at the Hall."
"Why thank you," she said with a smile.
"My pleasure, Fieayz," Kiomo said with a gentle smile as he gave her arm a friendly squeeze.
