He Wingsecond came into the infirmary. "Excuse me, is there someone
here who can help me?"
Leora looked up from what she was doing as soon as she heard the voice.
"I can - are you injured?" Concern was obvious in her voice.
"Not me, my daughter, she fell during class and the harper brought her
here, I've come to collect her if I can."
The girl nodded, she remembered seeing a scared looking little girl come
in not so long ago. "I think she's playing in back if you'd like to
follow me." Sure enough, toward the back of the infirmary, there she was
- a little bruised, but otherwise unharmed.
"Da!" Despite what looked as though it was going to be a lovely bruise
on her arm, Kerranna seemed pleased to see him. "I fell over," she said.
"I know sweetling, the Harper said so."
She held out her arm to show him.
"Ooh that looks painful. Were you brave for the healers?"
"Of course she was!" Leora interjected when the girl didn't seem like
she intended to answer. "A journeymen and I treated her and she didn't
cry - not even once."
"Thats good to hear," he gave the little girl a hug. "Does it still hurt?"
Kerranna shook her head.
"Is there anything I need to know before I take her home?"
"I do have a salve with a little numbweed and such things in it for you
to put every now and again - just so they don't hurt her too badly. But
there's nothing that you really need to be worried about." Leora was
surprised she was able to stay calm with such an important man talking
to her - a few months ago she would have (and had) clamed up completely!
"Are you ready to go now?" he asked the little one.
The girl nodded.
"What do you say to the healers?"
"Thank you," she said shyly.
"You're welcome, sweetheart." She beamed at the little girl. "She
shouldn't have any more trouble, but if you feel nervous at all, I'd be
glad to look at her again."
"That's good to know. Do we have to let the Journeyman know that we're
going?"
Leora shook her head. "No, he's already cleared her to leave - you're
free and clear!"
"Then if you can think him for me, and thank you yourself for looking after
her. She can be a handful."
"Am not!" said Kerranna.
"And argumentative too," said her father with a laugh.
