Breaking the Rules, part 4:

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 12th September 2006

Characters: Kustaava, An'dr
Description: An'dr hears the news and comes to check on Ava.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 9 of Turn 3

"Ava? Is it true? How's Mindath?" An'dr had run over as soon as he'd heard about things, and had been released from duty. "What happened?"

"Hi, An'dr. Depends on what you have heard," Ava replied and this time she didn't have her customary smile to him.

"I heard that Mindath got hurt. Is she okay? Are you okay?"

"Yes, she's hurt. I did something really stupid and hurt my dragon," Ava said, her voice full of self-anger.

"Do you want to tell me about it?" he asked. Ava was impulsive, but surely she wouldn't hurt Mindath deliberately.

"I tried to fly with Mindanth, well, not try, since we did fly. But my weight was still too much for her and she sprained her shoulders," Ava told with a sad tone.

"You did what?" An'dr must have sounded as shocked as he looked. But then flying before he was allowed would not have crossed his mind, especially since he had not been expected to impress at all.

"It was pretty idiotic thing to do, I know that now," Ava said, her hackles up.

"Oh Ava," he said. "At least you two are alright. Faranth alone knows what might have happened."

"Yes," Ava sighed, "Sometimes I feel like there's two of me: Good Ava and the Bad, Rebellious Ava. Unfortunately this time the Bad Ava won."

An'dr didn't quite know what to say to that. "Have the dragonhealers seen her yet?"

"Yes, of course they had. She's grounded untill they say otherwise," Ava couldn't keep the pout from her voice.

"Pluserth could keep an eye on her during classes if you'd like?" offered An'dr. "Make sure there is someone with her all the time."

"He could? That would be nice, I mean, she's feeling pretty wretched right now," Ava said.

"I'll ask him if he will, so long as we don't need to be anywhere."

"Yeah, there's that," Ava muttered.

"Do you want to talk about it? What happened I mean."

"What's there to talk about? I just couldn't wait untill I got permission to fly. Oh, no, I just had to do it and hurt my dragon," Ava said bitterly.

"That's not what I meant," said An'dr. "I mean, have they told you what';s going to happen?"

"Besides being grounded, and showeling out weyrling barracks? They probably won't let me graduate with the rest of my class."

"It'll be okay," he said, hoping he sounded comforting. "My class graduated, and I'm nowhere near a wing yet."

"Yeah, well, I'm probably too young to go directly to fighting wings too," Ava said with a resigned sigh.

"They won't let you till you are well over 16 turns," he said.

"So they say," Ava grunted.

"They haven't posted me yet - guess that means I'm doing a good job here."

"I guess so. You've made yourself too valuable to have them move you to a fighting wing," Ava said.

"Maybe one day soon," he said.

"Maybe," Ava agreed softly.

"Maybe, together?"

She smiled. "That could be fun."
