Corvera groaned as she propped her foot up on a stack of books and placed a cold pack over it as the healers had directed for the bite on her ankle. As it had turned out, it had been the work of some dastardly fish not commonly found in the Sea of Azov - her encounter was actually quite a rare one! As if _that_ was supposed to make her feel better.
She eased back in her seat and closed her eyes. Perhaps she'd sip a glass of wine later to ease the mild pain in her ankle.
S'rak gave a quick rap on the door before cracking it open. He normally didn't just barge into people's weyrs but he didn't want her hopping up on that foot of hers. "Corvera? Don't get up... can I come in?" The Weyrwoman cringed. The last thing she wanted was for one of her riders to see her in this condition; she had an image to maintain -
even if it was just S'rak. "All right." She sighed. "Come in." She supposed that maybe he had a right to see her seeing as how she was with him when she injured herself in the first place.
"I brought you some nice hot bubbly pies, right out of the oven." he said, hoping it would cheer her up since she didn't sound too happy.
He leaned down in front of her with the covered platter and with great showmanship lifted the lid to reveal the contents. "You always did take advantage of my weakness for bubbly pies." She bit her lower lip and reached for one without waiting another second. She bit into it with relish. "I suppose you can stay." S'rak chuckled while he sat the tray down within her reach. **Well if you insist** he thought sarcastically. "So how are you feeling?" He asked as he pulled a chair up. Corvera made a noncommittal sound. "I'm fine, I suppose. The healers have some lovely herbs to take with my wine so I can't be that bad...
and you're here..."
He smiled at that, glad that she _did_ actually want him there with her. He might have been friends with her for turns, but that didn't mean that he was any closer to figuring out what went on in that head of hers. "Did the healers say how long before that ankle healed up?"
"A sevenday and I won't even know it happened. In the meantime, I have to keep explaining just how I managed to get such a peculiar injury."
S'rak was internally relived to hear it was such a short recovery time.
He'd never let her know, but during the short flight to the healers after she'd been attacked, he'd been terrified that her condition could be life threatening; and so close after Torinica's death...
Outwardly he joked, "Well I hope you amply exaggerated the hero who rescued you from the gigantic sea monster!"
"I did!" She allowed a rare giggle. "And I think that hero deserves a reward..."
"Reeeaaally..." he drew out the word, his curiosity quickly peaking.
He raised an eyebrow and grinned, "What kind of reward did you have in mind?" Corvera grinned evilly. "I don't know, what do you think Radeth would like?"
S'rak almost fell out of his chair. "What?! _That_ lazy brute?! He didn't... What'd he..." he sputtered, "I give up, I really do. That bronze fellow of mine gets all the girls and I'm always left out in cold!" "I can't help it - he's just such a handsome creature." The Weyrwoman teased.
"He may be." S'rak said with a snort, then allowed a slow smile to spread across his face as he pulled out a deck from his pocket. "But is he any good at cards?" "He certainly couldn't be any worse than you." Clearly, her time laid up in bed had made her sassy.
S'rak pursed his lips before eyeing her tray of bubblies and snatching one. "Well, if you aren't going to appreciate me..." he said as he took a bite and exaggerated his enjoyment of it. Corvera sighed; perhaps he wasn't quite ready for this side of her. "I know something you are rather good at..." She moved a little closer in a slow, deliberate manner.
"And what's that?" He asked, his eyebrows raised. She certainly was in a funny mood today...
"Refilling my wine glass from that bottle over there!" Corvera giggled mercilessly.
S'rak grinned. Corvera was beautiful when she smiled, but she was absolutely magnificent when she laughed, and he could never resist her in either state. "As you wish, m'lady." he said as he took the bottle in hand. He kneeled in front of her as she sat on the couch ready to pour the wine, then stopped, thinking better of it. "I think I'd better collect my payment first." he explained, a lopsided grin spreading across his face.
"All right then." She curled her finger at him to draw him closer.
He'd planned on continuing their flirtatious game like he always had, but another flash of Corvera crying out from that horrible bite suddenly made his chest tighten. Before she could react, S'rak kissed her; hard enough to carry his emotions, but with just his lips so that she could pull away if she wished. It wasn't at all what she had planned or expected but it had been so sharding long since she had bedded a man that she didn't entirely mind S'rak's blunt abruptness. She kissed him right back.
Encouraged, S'rak put the wine down beside the couch and started to run his fingers through Corvera's hair. It felt good to kiss her he realized as his lips traveled down her neck and then back up to her sweet lips. He wasn't just kissing some random woman post-flight, he was kissing his friend, someone whom he had known for so long and who knew _him_. It reminded him of the types of kisses he received from Torinica before she had died...
He paused to catch his breath and leaned his forehead against hers, "Is this, okay?" he asked, not quite sure it really was.
"Yes." Her reply was a little breathless. Shard being Weyrwoman - they took lovers all the time and as long as she was discreet - Faranth she didn't care! She looked at him evenly; this would be good for the both of them. Corvera tilted her head and began to kiss him softly and gently, winning him over with every tender little kiss.
