Description: C'mer comes to ask J'an a question
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 6 of Turn 3

There was a knock at the door of the Weyrlingmaster's office, just as he was hoping to get away for the day, and finally manage to eat some food.

C'mer entered, looking very nervous. "Weyrlingmaster?" he asked. "I didn't interrupt you, right?"

"Not at all," he managed to say without sounding too annoyed, or so he hoped.

"I was wondering, well..." C'mer looked down at his hands. "My older sister just had a baby and they want me to come see them. I was... are we allowed to go see family?"

There was always one who asked to do something before they were quite ready, ran through J'an's mind. But with one look at C'mer's face he could see that it wasn't the case, there seemed to be a sincere desire to do the right thing by asking first.

He took a deep breath. "Not quite yet,C'mer. In another few sevendays maybe, once you and Rhysth have been /between/."

C'mer looked up. "Really?" he said hopefully. "I guess I was afraid we weren't allowed to go anywhere at all until we graduated."

"You'll need to have someone with you who can check the visualisations, but it might be possible to organise it for a restday, so long as there is no threadfall."

C'mer nodded. "I really appreciate it." he said. "I guess I didn't realize how long weyrlinghood could seem. Letters aren't the same I guess." He realized he was holding the letter tightly and straightened it. "Do you get these kinds of questions a lot from your weyrlings?
Asking to go home, I mean."

"Some do," replied the Weyrlingmaster, "But most realise that this short, yet intense few months is the time when they can really bond with their new lifemates."

C'mer looked down at his feet. "The Weyr is my home now, and so is Rhysth. But it's just so _different_ here." Wrong and perverse...some of the people! He couldn't stand them. The male greenriders especially.

"It takes some people a little time to adjust, but you will, with Rhysth. Help him, and let him help you."

C'mer nodded. "Were you Weyrbred or Holdbred?" the brownrider dared to ask.

"Weyrbred, but I spent a few turns away from home at the Smith Hall before I Impressed. So I can understand a little of what you feel, coming to a completely new place."

C'mer nodded. It wasn't so bad, what he wanted to do- and the Weyrlingmaster had said maybe! "So I can write back saying maybe after Rhysth and I go /between/, right?" he asked. He really didn't want to get in trouble.

"Yes you can do that," replied J'an with a smile.

"Thank you _so much_, Weyrlingmaster!" C'mer said, smiling. **I get to go home.** he thought happily. Rhysth echoed his lifemate's happiness.
"Is there anything else I need to do today?"

"No, go and join the others for dinner."

}:Which is where you should be,:{ advised his bronze.

"Thank you, sir!" C'mer repeated, hurrying off to dinner as told. **Wait till I can write my parents.** he thought.
