Abrei

Abrei

Bang!

The ceramic statue of a dragon fell to the stone floor. CRASH!!

R'yin started completely awake, swearing. "Sharding flit!" He yelled before he realized Fall was twined around the pillow behind his head. Naked as the day he was born, the brownrider sat up, blinking and moaning.
His head was _hurting_. "Abrei? Abrei is that you?" He held a hand to his pounding head, trying to see through the darkness of his weyr, lit only by one small glowbasket. A muffled curse answered him as Abrei scrambled to her feet and tugged her skirt the rest of the way on. "I tripped over one of your boots," she muttered, just loudly enough to be heard. "But Abrei, boots don't _crash_..." He said, momentarily confused.

"What the shards was that, and why are you over there instead of still in bed? It must be the middle of the night.."

He groaned and tried to crawl back into the furs. It had _better_ still be the middle of the night, he was in no shape to move.

"I tripped over your boots," she said again, rubbing at her elbow. "But then I fell into something else... a table, I think."

R'yin struggled to sit up again. "Abrei.. never mind. Just come back to bed. Darker than a tunnel snake's next in here right now."

Abrei cleared her throat uncomfortably. "Actually I was leaving. Go back to sleep."

R'yin was startled enough that his head cleared momentarily. "Don't leave, Abrei. At least sleep the rest of the evening through; the bed is already feeling cold. Were you that displeased by my performance that you have to leave in the middle of the night?" He smiled at her, his openness charming in and of itself, despite the lateness and the amount of drink. "I just like my bed," Abrei replied quickly, though now she was wondering if it might just be easier to go back to bed and sneak out in the morning, when it was at least a little lighter outside. "I don't sleep well in strange places."

R'yin looked at her as much as he could, the silence stretching for several heartbeats. Finally, he said softly, "I understand, though we are less strangers than we were candlemarks ago. Just come back, Abrei. I won't even touch you if you wish. But the bed is warm." R'yin sighed softly as he asked her, wondering what he'd been thinking sleeping with someone he barely knew. Ahh, well. It _was_ a Weyr and he had liked her.

}: You like her now. :{ He glanced at the direction of his brown, the sleepy voice in his head making him yawn..and smile. Yes, he did.

"Come back, Abrei." This plea had much more emotion behind it.

Feeling vaguely guilty, Abrei stepped around whatever it was she'd broken and sank back onto the edge of his bed. "It's not you, R'yin. I just wanted to sleep in my own bed." R'yin nodded once, though he knew she couldn't see him in the darkness. "I do understand that feeling, Abrei. If you'd like to leave, I can have Aerrath see you to your Weyr and my flit Fall will make sure you don't trip over anything else. But I do wish you'd stay." Almost like a canine pup, wasn't he?

"That's alright. I can make it on my own now that--" She cleared her throat, obviously embarrassed. "Now that I found my clothing. You just go back to sleep... and thank you for a nice evening." Abrei winced as she stood back up, knowing that this was probably not the best way to end an encounter. She couldn't quite imagine waking up next to someone who was so very nearly a complete stranger, though. R'yin was at a loss; he did not take so many women to bed that he was any more graceful than she had just been, and in addition, his head was _pounding_
robbing what grace he had to share.

"If that is what you'd like, Abrei. Thank you, too." Oh, so awkward! The only answer was the sound of his door closing softly behind her.
