Description: Penryn notices that Ishek's a little bit drunk, and the Turn's End
celebration hasn't even started yet.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 3
"Lord Ishek?" Penryn asked as he peeked his head inside his office.
"Are you ready? The holders are gathering outside. We're just waiting for you."
"For me?" Ishek asked, standing up. He'd finally gotten into his best finery, wanting to make a good impression. It had taken him awhile to get it buttoned, though, and he wondered why. Surely he wasn't that nervous? Unfortunately, he'd missed a button and his shirt didn't look quite right as a result. "I suppose that I sh- should hurry then." There was the faintest slurring to his words. He took a few steps forward and then turned, grabbing the hide off his desk. His hands were shaking.
Penryn eyed Lord Ishek's jacket and shaking hands. It seems the Lord Holder had started his celebrations a bit early. "Sir, I think we need to rebutton your shirt there."
Ishek looked down. "So I should." It took him a moment to fix the buttons, during which he felt mildly embarrassed. He really should have noticed that! Shards, but he was nervous. "Better?" he asked, twisting his hands nervously.
"Yes, sir," his Steward nodded as he reached out to adjust Ishek's collar. "Are you feeling all right?"
"Nervous." Ishek admitted. "Making speeches isn't my idea of a good time. What if I mess up? There are a lot of people out there, aren't there?"
"Yes, but you're the Lord Holder, Ishek. You're not going to lose that position any time soon, whether you get your Turns End speech perfect or not." Most likely people wouldn't remember such details of the night.
They just want to get the celebration started.
Ishek nodded nervously. Yimas cheeped softly from his perch, lifting his head up long enough to send warm thoughts to his owner before going back to sleep. "You're right, as always." he said. Knowing they couldn't get rid of him just for a messed up speech didn't calm his nerves, though.
"You might want to be careful how much more you have to drink tonight, though," Penryn suggested as tactfully as possible. "It wouldn't do for the Lord Holder to miss his party."
No, it wouldn't do- and he'd look like more of a fool, which is something he wouldn't want. "I shall watch myself." he replied. "So the speech is first, then everyone can eat?"
"They are eating already. There's no use trying to hold hungry Holder's back one the food is out, and the kitchens don't have the space to store what they've already made until your speech. If you want them to wait for the toast we'll make some kind of arrangement next Turn." Penryn hadn't even thought of mentioning that to the Lord Holder. It was hard to remember sometimes Ishek was used to a different way. "But the music and dancing won't start until your toast."
"Oh, no, I wouldn't want people to have to wait!" Ishek said. If the music and dancing weren't until after the toast, after the meal, then he shouldn't drink until after he'd made the toast to start it all off.
That would work. "I suppose we should go, then."
