Birigundi

Birigundi

Naemor tried to watch the older candidate discreetly. He didn't know if he should punch Birigundi for making his sister pregnant or forgot whole matter as it was none of his business.

Birigundi could feel the boy watching him. He had gotten used to both men and women watching him in the bathing chamber, but this kid was new.
It was probably a good idea to lay it straight out for him. "Listen kid, I understand this is a Weyr and you get to explore sides of yourself you didn't get to in the Hold or Hall you came from, but I just want to make sure you understand that I like only women. I don't mean to be blunt, but I don't want you to get your hopes up or anything."

"Sheesh, Birigundi, it's me, Naemor!" the boy said. Like he would fancy him!

"Hey, I just wanted to make sure. Sometimes boys start to relax into Weyrlife and realize they might be destined to Impress blue, if you know what I mean." Birigundi sank a little lower into the bathing pool with a content sigh. "So what were you looking at me like that for?"

"Just wondering if I should defend the family's honour and punch you," the younger candidate replied.

"What?" Birigundi asked with an amused chuckle. Was this some kind of joke? Naemor sure had a strange sense of humor. "Look, I'm sorry I suggested you might Impress blue, but you know, I just had to make sure. You can't be too careful in the bathing pool."

"Yeah," Naemor grunted. He dediced that Rigella could punch him herself if she felt the need.

His companion laid his head back against the edge and closed his eyes contentedly. "Just relax, Naemor. You worry too much."

"Maybe," Naemor admitted.

"Are you starting to go crazy with no Eggs on the Sands? Some candidates get a little antsy when there haven't been any Eggs on the Sands for a while." Birigundi was starting to get a little impatient himself.

"Maybe it's that. And there's no race runners here so I could ride," Naemor sighed.

"There's regular runners. I'm sure you can ride them."

"Yes, but they are so boring compared to real, warm blooded racer," Naemor complained.

Birigundi shrugged and sat up straighter again. "Well, maybe eventually you'll have a dragon, and trust me my friend, a racer couldn't compare."

"I bet they don't," Naemor said with a dreamy expression.

"N'mor... It's a good dragonrider name," Birigundi said thoughtfully before dunking his head under the water.

"Yeah, B'gundi isn't bad either, or would you be B'ndi?"

"B'gundi," his companion replied as he lathered up his hair. "I don't want to lose my _entire_ name."

"Right," Naemor said. "My name is so short that I don't have any options."

"N'mo?" He ducked his head under and scrubbed all the bubbles from his hair under water. Birigundi flipped his now clean and suds free head out of the water, splashing his companion unintentionally. "Ooops, sorry about that."

Naemor spat some water out of his mouth. "Sounds...too short," He grinned.

"And short names just don't fit men like us, do they," the older candidate grinned as he rested his arms along the edge of the pool casually.

"No, they don't," Naemor agreed, although the boy wasn't quite sure he understood what the older one referred to.
