"Don't worry, you can scrub him as hard as you like," U'kaiah assured the boy. "In fact Kalamath likes it if you push harder."
"All right. Shells, he has lot of hide to scrub!" Naemor said and grinned.
"Oh trust me, I know," the bronzerider grinned. "And after we're done scrubbing, then we get to oil him. He wants to show off for the green on the other side."
"My sister's green must be half of his size," Naemor guessed, trying to measure the bronze.
"I would think not quite, though Kalamath is a rather large bronze," U'kaiah said giving his lifemate's hide a proud pat.
"Do you think I could impress a bronze?" Naemor asked.
"Could be," the rider nodded. "Although one can never tell. A brown would be just as good. Or a blue or a green even. All colors are needed in the wings."
"I just can't picture myself as greenrider. I think I like girls," Naemor said and blushed.
"Well, that certainly boosts your chances for Impressing a bronze," U'kaiah smiled, giving Naemor a soft clout on the shoulder. "Ok, time for you to get up on Kalamath's neck and clean up there. Do you need help getting up?"
"Naah, I'm pretty agile. All that riding," Naemor said and climbed up. "Then you'll have no problem mounting a dragon of your own." The bronzerider handed him up a brush. "Make him look good. He's a rather vain lump of metal."
"All right," Naemor replied cheerfully and attacked the bronze's hide with the brush, scrubbing with all his strenght. He was pretty sure the dragon would tell if he scrubbed too hard.
"So why do you want to be a dragonrider, Naemor?"
"'Cause I was searched?" Naemor sounded unsure even in his own ears. U'kaiah knew that much. "Yes, but why did you _come_? Why didn't you keep studying?"
Naemor thought about for a moment. "'Cause I want to dragonrider. Cause I want a big lump like him," he finally replied and patted the bronze's neck. "Cause I want fly and fight Thread."
U'kaiah almost interjected that no one got to call his lifemate a lump except him, but he decided to let it go. "Have you always wanted to be a dragonrider?"
"I'm not sure. I guess so. Being jockey is fun, but flying with dragon is even more fun."
"How many times have you been up? I seem to remember your sister is a greenrider."
"A few times. When we got here first time, when I went to the beastcraft hall... dad's funeral's, that four already and the once Naerigga took me with her for fun," Naemor listed out.
"Well, you need to ride a dragon more than that. How about after we get this beast all shiny and beautiful we go somewhere?"
"Sounds great! Can we go to beastcraft hall? I can show you some real runners!" Naemor said euthiasticly.
"If you like," U'kaiah nodded. "We can go anywhere on Pern you want to go."
"Like stop by to Onyx Hills to greet my old master?"
U'kaiah chuckled. "There's only so many candlemarks in a day, Naemor. Let's see how much time we have. We'll stop by Onyx Hills, and if there's time we'll stop by the Beastcraft Hall."
"All right," Naemor said.
The bronzerider grinned. It probably would give the boy a nice ego boost to show up to brag to all his friends on a big beautiful shiny bronze. "Come on, lets get him looking good and then we can go."
"Done with the back," Naemor told and slid down.
"Don't get too excited. We still have to _oil_ this big boy." U'kaiah had to admire his enthusiasm though.
Naemor groaned, he had forgotten that. It was like with runners. You never run out of chores to do.
