The Things A Man Will Do...

Writers: Anwen, Eimi
Date Posted: 9th December 2006

Characters: Daigoro, Jielta
Description: Diagoro asks Jielta for a woman's perspective
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 1, day 9 of Turn 4

"Good morning, Jielta," the Hallsecond smiled as he opened the door for her. "Have you come to see your father?"

The young woman smiled at Daigoro. "Yes, please, if he's in."

"I'm sorry, he's not. He's probably speaking to someone about the new Tavern. It might take a while."
Daigoro was happy to see how much time the Hallmaster was devoting to the project. It seemed to be the best thing for Fielton to have something proactive he could do "Okay then," Jielta said, sounding disappointed. "Will you at least tell him I stopped by?"

"Oh, well, don't go yet. Could I borrow you for a few minutes?" Daigoro asked hopefully. He could use a female point of view right now!

"Of course," she agreed readily. She waited patiently for him to explain why. "Well, I'm trying to think of something... I want to do something special for Cinale." Even though they had only been married a handful of days, he just felt like he had to show her some token of his love. He was a lucky man, and he wanted her to know that he appreciated that.

"Oh, that sounds like fun!" Jielta said excitedly.
"What can I do to help?"

"First off, I have to figure out _what_ to do. Any suggestions?" Any idea would be good at this point. He was at a total loss.

"Are you artistic in any way? Women always love things that men make for them. Poetry is always good too."

"Poetry?" He loved Cinale, but he would rather impress her with his thoughtfulness than his ineptitude. "I don't think I could write anything worth reading."

Jielta considered for a moment. "Plants maybe? Flowers and things like that are always nice."

"I built her an herb garden before we were married." If he never saw another plant or shovel again, it would be too soon.

"I guess we should come up with something different then. I mean, we want her to know that you put a lot of thought into this..."

"I'd like to make her something, if I can. I suppose I could buy something, but it just seems so...
impersonal." And he wanted it to be something special
- something unique.

An idea struck Jielta. "How about you cook her something? A special dinner? Or maybe a special sweet that she likes?"

**A special sweet...** That brought a thoughtful smile to his face. "Cookies," he said, remembering all the batches she had baked, knowing they were his favorite. "I want to back her a batch of cookies."

"Perfect!" Jielta said with a broad smile. "I'm sure Cinale will love them!"

"Yes, I think I have the marks to buy the ingredients." Flour just for pleasure was going to cost at Amber Hills considering how little extra there was to spare. But he was sure he could find enough for such an indulgence. "You don't happen to know how to bake cookies, do you?"

Being a rather spoiled young lady, Jielta never thought of how much things cost. What did she care that flour was at a premium? "Of course I do! I used to help in the kitchen when I was at the Weyr. I love to bake especially!"

The Hallmaster grinned hopefully. "Do you think you could help me? I've never done anything like that before."

"I'd love to help you. Just find a time when we can use the kitchens and gather the ingredients we need and we can have those cookies done in no time."

"We can work in the kitchen at my cot while Cinale is in the Hall kitchens." While she's baking for the Hall, he could be off baking in their own little cot's kitchen. That thought made him chuckle. "Whenever you have time."

"I'm not exactly busy these days," Jielta confessed.
"Name a time and I'll be there."

"Well, I will need a list of ingredients, but perhaps the day after tomorrow? Between lunch and dinner?" She should be busy then cleaning up from lunch and starting dinner.

"Sounds perfect. Where should I meet you?"

"Come to my office. I'll be waiting. Truly I appreciate this, Jielta!" He was actually getting excited at the thought. Him _baking_? Who would have thought! Ah the things a man will do for the woman he loves...
