Living Life a Little

Writers: Bree, Yvonne
Date Posted: 23rd January 2007

Characters: F'lin, Tiya
Description: Felarin visits the Infirmary to visit Tiya... and coax her outside
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 9 of Turn 4

The Infirmary was a different place without Abrei. **A little more relaxed,** Felarin thought, a little traitorously. But even if she was no longer Weyrhealer, a promise was a promise. And he wasn't the type to 'forget' things just because they were convenient. "I'm looking for Tiya," he told a somewhat startled Journeyman, who sent him to sit out of the way in the waiting room. Felarin hated waiting, but at least over there he was less likely to run into M'galec.

Tiya arrived a few moments later, looking flustered and surprised when she saw who was waiting for her. "Felarin. Are you alright?" "Perfectly! And how are you?" he asked cheerfully.

For a brief moment the young girl paused, then tilted her head to the side and offered him a hesitant smile. "I'm doing well."

"Good!" For a brief moment Felarin was stuck without a thing to say.
Abrei had asked him to spend time with the girl, but it was a difficult thing to do when he didn't know her that well. And slightly awkward besides. "I, ah, thought I'd stop by to say hello to the few healers I knew since I was in the area. Except for Abrei - it must be strange for you not to have her around."

"Yes, I miss her, of course." Not as much as she should, though. Abrei had always watched her with those slightly wary eyes as if she was waiting for Tiya to fall apart. "But it's nice to see you again.
I mean, to get a chance to talk to you."

"So what's new, then?" Felarin asked.

Tiya sat down next to him and twisted her hands together. "Nothing, really. I don't really do much except for come here." And she rather suspected she made people uncomfortable now, but she didn't know how to stop that.

The carpenter looked surprised. "Really? Why not? There's gardens and the weyrlake to swim in, and runners to ride of you can persuade the stablemaster that you're not going to founder them or break your neck falling off. Or the beach to walk along, to find seashells or go swimming. Doesn't seem like much fun to sit around in the Infirmary all the time with sick people."

"I don't like going outside by myself," she admitted quietly. "I don't really like going outside at all."

"What, really?!" That was a foreign concept for Felarin, who thought that outside was the best place to be. The weyrs and rooms still sometimes made his skin crawl as he imagined water creeping up the walls. "When was the last time you went to the beach?"

Tiya frowned. "I don't know... a few months ago?"

"I think we need to change that. I think that this evening you need to come for a walk with me." The girl could probably use it - she was too pale.

If it had been anyone else, she would have turned them down. Felarin was different, though. She liked his jokes and his easy manner and the way he treated her as if she was just a normal girl. "I'd like that."

"Good! Meet me at, oh, a candlemark after the supper bell at the west bottom exit to the Weyr?" He'd have to duck out of a card game he'd promised to lose marks at, but really, he was down to his last handful anyway. And if his mother was visiting, he'd probably need a few to keep her occupied. And him in beer to dull the experience...

A journeyman called Tiya's name from across the infirmary, causing her to jump up. "I'll meet you then," she said shyly before turning and rushing off in the direction of the older healer, hoping Felarin couldn't see her blush.
