Repaying the kindness

Description: Kitali takes J'an a sweet treat
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 4 of Turn 3

Kitali turned at the corner and made her way down yet another hallway.
In her hands, she held a small platter, though a cloth covered what it contained from prying eyes. The contents were not for those who sniffed at the sweet scent that came from said platter and eyed it greedily as she passed by. No, instead, they were for someone else; for whomever was beyond the door where she stopped to rap upon and announce her desire to enter. A drudge took one more sniff, casting a quick, longing look towards the harper before hurrying away with the basket of laundry that was to be taken down to wash.

"Kitali?" The Weyrlingmaster was on his way to his office. "Fancy seeing you here?"

"Indeed." Kitali turned, not expecting to have been greeted by the weyrlingmaster outside of his office. "I thought I'd bring you a bit of a treat."

"A treat? What have I done to deserve that?" He gave her a curious look, as they reached his office. He opened the door, and held it for her, gesturing her in.

"Well, you've been very kind to my son." Kitali moved inward, slipping past the weyrlingmaster and allowing him to get a whiff of something cinnamon and sweet. "I wanted to repay the kindness."

"No thank you is really needed," he began. But on sniffing the contents of the plate she held, his mind began to change.

"Yes, well, it's a pleasure to return the favour." Upon reaching the weyrlingmaster's desk, Kitali set the plate down. "And I really do appreciate your kindness."

"Well when you put it like that..." He reached out to lift the cover off the plate. "You might just have outdone yourself."

Kitali couldn't help but smile look on J'an's face as he uncovered the miniature cakes that she had brought to him. "I hope you like them. I wasn't sure what you liked best.

"I'm sure that they are all going to be very tasty, but you have to join me in sampling them." He patted his stomach, "Too many and I'll look like a gold dragon before a clutch."

"I'm sure you'll work it off." Kitali stated with a chuckle as she gently pushed the plate just a little closer to J'an. "After all, you do have to run after all those weyrlings."

"That's why I have a 'second and a 'third!" he teased.

"Yes, but you still have a lot of running around to do." Kitali pointed out. "I have an assistant, but I still do a lot of work!"
She motioned to the plate. "Go on, enjoy yourself. Splurging like this once in a while won't hurt."

"Only if you help too," he said before reaching out to sample a morsel.

"No, I got them for you." The harper pointed out. "Not for myself."

"I insist."

"Well, I'm afraid you're going to have a fruitless time insisting."
Kitali grinned at the weyrlingmaster. "No, I'm afraid they're all yours to dispose of as you wish."

"In that case I'm going to have to insist that you take some for those lovely boys of yours," he said with a mock stern tone. "Can't have them missing out."

"Well one of them isn't old enough to eat any yet, but if you'd like, I'll take one for Lidrin." Kitali stated as she finally gave in. "But you really should keep them for yourself."

"Good."
