Dinner Companions

Writers: Bree, Cali
Date Posted: 30th January 2007

Characters: S'rak, Kenza
Description: S'rak and Kenza work on wing duties.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 6 of Turn 4

Pushing his chair back, S'rak stood up from the table he and Kenza had been hunched over for the last hour and stretched his back. "That's it. I need a break!"

Kenza sighed and rubbed at the side of her head. "Tell me about it. I don't think my head has hurt this badly in a turn or more."

"Want a drink?" he held up a pitcher of water and poured some into a glass. Wine was available on the table, but the thought of fresh cool water had tempted his parched mouth far more. After a longing glance at the wine, Kenza nodded. "Water is fine." Now was not the time to muddle her head.

The Wingsecond poured his Third a cup and passed it over. "I wanted to know your opinion on this first, but I think I'm going to talk to J'nus about B'ulak."

"Mmmm. Probably not a bad idea." Kenza was fairly sure J'nus had already noticed that his wingrider wasn't quite up to form yet after recovering from threadscore, but it wouldn't hurt to be sure. After all, J'nus could hardly keep his eyes on _everything_. "He's just not making the passes cleanly, and that blue of his is having a hard time keeping up in the heavier currents." S'rak had hoped that he'd right himself after a few days back, or even come and talk to _him_ about it since he was still having problems. "Did the healers give any warnings when they cleared him for duty?" Kenza asked, setting the cup aside so she could try to shuffle through the untidy mess to find any instructions from the healer. S'rak thought a moment but shook his head. "Nothing specific, just the usual. B'ulak took the scoring pretty hard. I just hope it hasn't hurt him mentally." "It happens sometimes..." Kenza trailed off as she found the report from the healer and browsed it. "You're right, nothing stands out. He should be fine for duty. Do you want to talk to him, or should I?"

"It's okay, I'll do it. I just wondered your opinion on it since I had your attention." He flashed her a smile before pointing to the table. "Shall we get back to work?" "You seem to be in a good mood today," Kenza noted as she turned back to her work. She didn't usually get along with him this well, and she knew _she_ wasn't in an especially pleasant mood. S'rak shrugged, "I'm just trying to get all this done. And it doesn't hurt that I have an enchanting dinner companion to look forward to after we're all finished." "Oh? Some pretty lass catch your eye?"

"It does happen..." the bronzerider said drolly, "What about you? Any plans tonight?"

"Maybe I'll have to see if I can find myself a pretty young lad..." She grinned dryly at him. "You old men never seem to have any problems finding friendly and energetic young partners." "Maybe we just have to seek out the young ones because all the women our age are off in a corner with their young men already." S'rak suggested with a laugh. Kenza snorted. "Nice try. You can take off early if you want. We're almost done, and I don't mind finishing up so you can grace your lucky dinner companion with a little extra time."

"Oh no," the bronzrider fended off, "I don't want to deprive you your hunt. We can finish together, it won't take long."
