Fielton

Fielton

Bhervehan carefully stepped off the gang plank of the sailing ship, guided as ever by the hand of his eldest daughter. Turning to wave his thanks again to the captain and crew, Bhervehan and Winda started up the path to the new Vintnerhall.

It was only a short walk from the dock to the main building of the Vintnerhall. But it gave Bhervehan more than enough time to soak it all in.

"I don't like it," he grumbled, waving his walking stick at the former Technicial Hall.

Winda rolled her eyes, knowing that this was coming. "What's wrong with it, da? It looks like a wonderful building, and I am sure the rest of the grounds are just the same."

"Pah!" he exclaimed. "The old Hall was better."

Laughing, Winda wrapped her arms around his, "Pah yourself, da. You have never approved of anything new in your life, if it didn't come out of one of your kegs."

Holding his head high, he said, "now you are starting to sound like your mother."

"Yeah, well momma also knew what an old curmudgeon you were."

"I suppose I can give the place a chance." Quickening his pace a bit he added, "besides, it ougth to be fun to see what Fielton has up his sleeve."

<><>< The door to the Hallmaster's office was ajar as Bhervehan wrapped on the doorjam with his walking stick.

The voice that came from within the office sounded harried. "Come in!"

Opening the door, Bhervehan saw his old friend behind a desk full of papers and hides. "May it be a warm day between if I look like that while working," he said with a chuckle.

"Bhervehan!" Fielton pushed his chair back and paced around his desk.
"_Finally_! I was beginning to think you'd never arrive!"

Wrapping his oldest friend in a big hug, the brewer laughed, "I was doubtful myself at times. We had some rough seas on the coyage here."

"Well, why don't you sit down on something that _isn't_ moving." The Hallmaster pulled out a new looking chair and gestured to it. "How is your daughter? I told them to show her to the guest quarters. The rooms above the tavern aren't quite finished yet."

Taking the proffered seat, Bhervehan extended his legs. "Thank you, Fielton. Winda is doing well. I do not know how I would have survived without her these last months. I came here straight from the ship, so I have not had a chance to see the tavern yet. How long until it is up and running?"

"That depends on how quickly you can finalize the details," Fielton replied with a grin that would have shocked most of his Hall. "The basic structure is fairly well finished, and the furniture is being moved in already. I can lend you a handful of apprentices and a journeyman or two to help you arrange things to your liking."

"Let me check it out," he answered. "But I am sure we have the Tavern up and running in a couple of sevendays, three at the most, depending..."

Fielton pulled out the stack of work he'd done while planning his new venture. "Then I'm handing all of this over to you. As far as I'm concerned, old friend, you are now in charge of everything having to do with the new tavern. If you have any problems, come straight to me.
This will be an immediate source of income, so it is of the utmost importance."

Taking the stack, Bhervehan whistled trhough his teeth. "Private dining rooms. Nice sleeping rooms upstairs. Even space for me to brew some small lot beer. Well, let me take a look at the building and I will let you know what I need to get it up and running."

"Do you want to rest for a while first?" Fielton offered, though he was fairly itching to drag his friend straight to the tavern and demand an opinion. "The guest rooms that we have set aside for you are very comfortable... and the indoor plumbing here is amazing! There are some advantages to being in the old technician's Hall!"

"Rest? Are you kidding?" he asked. "I've been resting for the whole trip here. I have a tavern to get up and running, old friend. I can rest after."

"Well, then. Let's go see your new home!"

Tucking the sheets into his carrysack, Bhervehan got to his feet.
"Let's go see and I will let you know what I will need, but I will want at least one smart journeyman this afternoon. Tomorrow I will need the apprentices. I'll probably be borrowing a cook from your kitchens as well"

Feeling more pleased with the world than he had in longer than he cared to think about, Fielton escorted his friend out of his office and into his new life.
