Visualizing Goals

Writers: Cali, Jane
Date Posted: 17th February 2007

Characters: B'lamick, Tey
Description: B'lamick runs into a friend who didn't impress.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 1 of Turn 4

"Hello Tey," B'lamick couldn't help but grin when he saw the girl, "Where are you off to?"

"My break," the young woman said with a grin. It was the first time she had had a chance to talk to the young man since the Hatching when he had been being busy being congratulated for his Impression of a bronze. "And not before time. What about you, weyrling bronzerider B'lamick?"

"Me?" It still sounded strange to him to be referred to as _bronzerider_, and _B'lamick_, or _weyrling_ for that matter. That smile though seemed to indicate she wasn't upset by the title... or the lack of a similar title for herself, so he pointed towards the cavern opening. "A late lunch. Latarth needed me to stay with him and I missed everybody."

"Latarth." Her grin widened if that was possible. "And is he well?"

B'lamick nodded. "Very. He acts tougher than he is though, he stepped on his wing and became embarrassed so I stayed with him until he went to sleep." He momentarily focused his thoughts on his small bronze until he felt their connection and reassured himself that he was still asleep.

"You have that look now," she said. "That look dragonriders get."

He couldn't help but chuckle, "It's kind of obvious right now huh?
I'll have to practice making it less noticeable."

"They never really manage it - though I suppose weyrbred people notice it more. We stop speaking until they come back. Have you noticed?"

"Yeah," he admitted rubbing the back of his head guiltily, "I cracked a joke about it too, so I guess it's payback time."

"In the nicest way and worth it, I suppose. And your friend Impressed too, I saw."

"Io- I mean I'poro, yeah." It was still a bit odd to refer to Ioporol by his rider name, but he was getting more used to it. "I'm glad he Impressed with me, it's been easier having somebody to go through everything with."

"I'm sure it is. Maybe one day I'll find out," she said with a smile, knowing he didn't have the same patience she did about waiting and luckily hadn't been tested on that.

He still didn't understand her on the subject of impressing... but it was kind of nice to not understand someone. It made her very intriguing to him. "I hope you do. I'd love to have your green fly next to Latarth in Fall."

"Ahh, an invitation to the possibility of death or maiming," she teased. "How sweet."

B'lamick couldn't help but chuckle, her tone was priceless. "Well, let's hope not, I plan on being around long enough to see the end of the Pass."

She admired his optimism - and perhaps it would work. He had expected to Impress ... and he had. Perhaps he would last the forty-six remaining Turns to the end of the Pass. "That's a good plan, all right."

"My father always said to visualize my goals, that it was always easier to get someplace if you could see where you were going." He had meant it in terms of healing and medicine, but it applied to dragonriding too.

"It seems to work for you, anyway. And that's what dragonriders do -
literally." She chuckled. "They visualize where they're going so their dragons know where to appear from /between/."

"You're right!" B'lamick agreed with a grin, "Looks like I've gotten alot of practicing in then. Maybe you should try it and see how it goes."

"Different for me." She would be happy with whatever happened -
Impression or not. She knew he didn't understand that. "But I have to get back to work now. Congratulations again, dragonrider."

B'lamick gave a wave in farewell, regretting their time together was over. "Thanks, see you later."
