Description: Fielton attends opening night at The Tavern with Bhervehan.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 21 of Turn 4
Bherevan parked himself at the front door on the Tavern. With the background noise of the guest talking amongst themselves, and the music from the harpers in the stage, he did not want to take the chance to miss Fielton's reaction as he entered. After all, this Tavern was his idea after all.
Fielton arrived fashionably late, dressed in an uncomfortably fancy tunic that had obviously been recently tailored to fit him. He tugged at the hem as he stepped up to the door, but managed a smile for Bherevan. "Well? Any terrible crisis I should know about?"
Bherevhan smiled, and tried unsuccessfully to hold back a small laugh.
"you mean aside from that tunic?"
The Hallmaster glared. "I hate tailors. I don't see why I can't stay in my office and run things and let someone else do all of the political things."
"As if you'd trust someone to handle that sort of thing without looking ove their shoulder."
"I suppose," he grumbled, stalling to hide his nervousness. He wasn't sure what he'd do if his months of obsession had yielded failure.
"You are, technically the host here tonight, Fielton," the Tavern master chided. "Try to look like you are having at least as much fun as your guests are."
"Fine, fine." He'd just have to remind himself how many marks people would be spending soon. "Well, Bhervehan. Let's go inside."
"Come on, I have a table set up just for you and I to enjoy the show. We can see the harper's stage, the dance square, and most importantly the bar where the marks will flow."
Fielton stepped through the door and paused for a moment, taking in the excited noise and light of the inside of the tavern. The fireplaces were burning merrily, the wine and ale were flowing, and there were even more people than he'd thought. For the first time since the earthquake, there was no grief in his face as he surveyed the scene before him. "Well done, Bhervehan."
"I promised you nothing less, Fielton. This was a nice building you turned over to me, and I have to tell you, the whole electric light thing is incredible."
"It is, isn't it?" Fielton asked distractedly. His eyes were drawn automatically to the long bar where people were crowding cheerfully around to buy drinks. He hadn't seen anything so beautiful in quite some time. "I think the fireplaces add something, though. It's just not a tavern without a good fireplace."
"And it is very popular," Bhervehan said. "If you watch you will never see one of those fire place seats empty for more than a minute. Even more than the tables near the stage."
Guiding the Master Vintner to a table near the back of the room. "I think you had a good idea here, Fielton."
Fielton smiled at his friend as he settled into a chair. "And I think together, we're going to make it a success."
The table was set with a variety of fingerfoods as well as a platter of roast herdbeast. "I am planning on making it more than merely a success.
Imagine this place full of caravan traders and dragonriders, with fists filled with marks to spend. Field workers looking to quench a dry throat before heading home in the evening."
The Tavern Master paused to take a sip of his own brew. "A well run tavern will always be profitable. A tavern sitting in the shadow of Vintnerhall? It will be a good things."
"A good thing," Fielton echoed. "I'm glad you're here, old friend. I need a good thing in my life."
"If the day ever comes that you can not find a good thing in my tavern, I will be hanging up my apron," Bhervehan said with a smile. "Now drink up, I made that beer specially for this night, and I am still waiting to see what your fancy EE-lectric cooler does to my wine."
Fielton raised his mug with a smile. "Then let's drink to good things, fancy coolers, and enough marks to make this Hall the most prosperous one on Pern."
Bhervehan tapped his mug to Fielton's. "I'll drink to that."
