Description: Figol delivers a message to Thanja and discuss harper discretion.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 2, day 27 of Turn 4
He couldn't believe he had to deliver another message! Usually, he enjoyed the job because it got him out of class, and he often got to talk to interesting people. But he was really liking his guitar class today, they were getting to play some really interesting chord progressions... "Hello?"
"Yes," said the Hallsecond as the lad approached her.
"I'm just delivering some papers." Figol said as he held up the stack.
He'd met the Hallsecond before and found her nice, so he wasn't intimidated like he might be with other authority figures.
"For me?" asked Thanja.
He didn't want to set them down on top of the papers on her desk so he continued to hold them. "Yup, from Master Corzo."
"I see," she held out her hand for the youngster to give her the papers.
"Did he tell you anything about them?"
"Not exactly." he hesitated, "I think I know what they are, but he didn't _tell_ me."
"What do you know?" she asked. Harpers were supposed to be able to figure things out, and she wanted to know how much of that Figol had picked up.
"Well..." Would she be mad that he guessed? Probably not, but he didn't know if he liked telling her and looking stupid if he was wrong either. "I know that the Masters had a big meeting a couple of days ago. And that some of the senior apprentices were given projects after Turn's End. And I've heard some talk about needing more journeymen what with deaths, impressions, and overall expanding of the continent.
So after I put all that together, and noticing before Master Corzo covered it up that one of the sheets named one of those senior apprentices I mentioned, I'd have to suppose that these were his notes on who he thinks should walk the tables soon." Whew! That was alot to get out!
That was a good sign at least, the lad seemed to be honest. And intelligent too, the next test would be to see if he had learned some discretion. "Of course Master Corzo and I can trust you not to ruin the surprise among the Printer apprentices, can't we."
So he was right! He hid his big grin and feigned innocence. "Of course you can. Harpers hear privileged information and learn to tell the difference between what needs to be told and what doesn't. And besides, just because one master thinks someone would be good doesn't mean another one would agree. And it could possibly even be months before you announce the journeymen, so there would be no need to get people's hopes up." he reasoned.
"Well done," said Thanja. "That's an astute piece of reasoning."
Figol smiled. While complements weren't rare at the Harper Hall, to get one from the Hallsecond would be especially pleasing to anyone.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Consider the message delivered, and get yourself back to class." She held out her hand for the hides.
He handed them over, "Have a good day!" he said in farewell as he headed out the door.
"You too Apprentice, you too."
