Fielton

Fielton

Fielton was doing his best to build the fire up quietly, hoping he could do it without waking Badia. It was getting colder by the day, and he didn't like the idea of her waking up in a cold room. No one had ever accused him of being a particuarly thoughtful man, but Fielton enjoyed making life easy for his new wife.

It took him three tries to get the fire burning properly--he'd been too distracted the night before to see it properly banked--and by the time he was finished he turned to see Badia looking at him sleepily. "I'm sorry, I was trying not to wake you."

She grinned, still slightly groggy. "A few less curses and dropped wood might have helped!" She held out her arms. "Come warm me up yourself for a bit before you have to leave..."

Fielton smiled and moved back to the bed, sliding under the blanket so he could pull her snug against his side. "I just didn't want you to have to wake up and have it be so cold."

She snuggled against his shoulder. "That's very sweet, husband..." She sighed, wishing he could stay there. Sometimes, she got lonely. She couldn't very well run off to the Hold everyday and she knew so few people at the Hall proper.

Leaning down, Fielton kissed her forehead and then her shoulder, smiling at her fondly. "I don't mind being sweet to you."

She smoothed his hair down and smiled. "Sometimes I get lonely...and I was thinking...." Now perhaps was the time to ask for her feline!

"What were you thinking?" he asked absently, his fingers trailing through her hair.

"That I might have a small kitten, perhaps?" She kissed his forehead. "Just something to keep my company during the day, husband...."

"Of course, Badia. I told you... whatever you want that's within my power to grant is yours."

"Really?!" By the skies, Lady Lindria was entirely correct! Excited, she sat up and leaned over to give him a kiss.

He returned the kiss with great enthusiasm before pulling back and smiling down at her. "Really. In fact, I'll speak to someone today about finding one for you."

She smiled. "I'll have to make sure I greet you with particular enthusiasm since I don't dare make you late this morning. You mentioned something about a meeting with the Master of Apprentices..."

"We've got to discuss which lads will be eligible for promotion to journeyman," Fielton replied absently, sliding his fingers under her chin. He kissed her again before pulling back with obvious regret. "If you need anything, you can always come and find me."

"I know..." But for how long? She didn't _like_ being dependent on him to find her way now that she was a resident of the Hall. And he'd simply not understand, even if she tried to explain.

Slipping from the bed, Fielton pulled the blankets up around Badia and kissed her one last time before moving to sit in a chair and pull his boots on. "I won't be around for lunch today... I've got to go over to the Hold for a few candlemarks. But I'm hoping to be done early today so we can spend some time together before dinner."

She snuggled under the covers and smiled at him. Faults and all, she couldn't help feeling a certain tenderness toward him--especially when he was willing to try to be 'subtle' and sneak off to the Hold on a kitten search! "I'll miss you but we'll have time later, husband. Just make sure you dress warmly for the walk...it's chilly out there lately!"

"Well, at least my boots are warm," he replied, smiling at her fondly. "I suppose you were right about putting them next to the hearth... I should listen to you more often, I suppose."

Well, of course he should! Still, it wasn't nice to gloat and so she merely smiled at him. "Have a good day at work, my husband..."

When his boots were on and his tunic straightened, he leaned over her for one last kiss and tucked the blankets around her tenderly. "Have a good day yourself, my wife."
