A Place to Call Home

Writers: Ainsley1, Paula

Characters: Evaleine, Zelanka
Description: Evaleine seeks out Zelanka to inquire about what living accommodations are available in the Hold
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 3, day 13 of Turn 4

Evaleine rounded the corner at a brisk walk intent on her mission. She had been told that the Headwoman could be found in the kitchens this time of the morning and was hoping to catch the busy woman before she moved on to other tasks. The younger woman came up short as she nearly ran right into the object of her search. "Oh, excuse me!"

"Pardon me!" Zelanka said almost instantly, struggling to keep the basket filled with fresh breakfast breads in balance. The loafs would be ruined if they fall to the floor. Reaching to help steady the basket, Evaleine was quick to apologize, "Oh my, I am sorry. I shouldn't be rushing around so, particularly here near the kitchens, but I was anxious to find you."

"Well, now you have found me, and most of your kitchen staff too," Zelanka replied with a smile. "Indeed," Evaleine chuckled. "I was hoping to catch you early in the day to set an appointment, but perhaps I can help out some here first," she offered. She'd had some interaction with the Headwoman, but not much and was uncertain with all of the new faces at the hold if Zelanka would remember their few short meetings. "All right. Take those klah pitchers, please. We can talk while we work," Zelanka said. Evaleine grabbed the pitchers and followed the Headwoman. "I was going to make an appointment to discuss possible quarters. I spoke with Shadux yesterday and he said that I should be able to stay here in the main Hall, but that you would be the one to talk to about availability and other specifics." "Quarters?" Zelanka let out a little sigh. The hold was packed full. It would ease a little by little when families moved to populate the surrounding cotholds. "Where are you staying now and what are you looking for?" She asked. "I've been staying, along with two other young women, with Ulorian the tanner and his wife Weinarta, but their daughter-in-law is coming to live with them for a time and they will need the space. Shadux mentioned that there might be a suitable apartment available in the main Hold, particularly if I did not mind sharing with another young woman." "Yes, let's see... You don't have family?" Zelanka checked. "Kahristene is out of the question, she has three children..." "No, no family. It's just me," Evaleine answered setting the klah pots down on the serving tables. "There's Troie, she does a night shift here in the kitchen," Zelanka suggested. "Then there's Rikka," she sounded bit hesitantly. "Rikka?" Evaleine queried. Though not completely opposed to sharing quarters with someone working the night shift, Evaleine did have concerns. "Yes, there's nothing exactly wrong with _her_ but she is a crafter, a technician," Zelanka told her. It was hard to say if she was disapproving the fact she was female crafter or the fact she was technician. "Hmmm. Now that would be different," she stated slowly mulling over the option in her mind. She really had no problems with a female crafter. "That would actually be fine," she answered finally. "Really? Well, if you don't mind it. After we're finished here, I can show you the rooms. They are quite nice," Zelanka said. "Oh, that would be wonderful!" Evaleine's answered with an inward sigh of relief. She had been worried nothing would be available this quickly. Though her host family had been very kind, if she was going to stay at Amber Hills, she needed a place to call home.
