Fielton returned to their quarters early as promised, though he was quite obviously without kittens of any kind. Instead he looked to be in a foul mood--the kind of foul mood Badia had never seen him in. He stomped over to his usual chair and dropped into it without more than a muttered greeting.
Badia had gotten out of the bath not much before he'd walked in and she was currently perched on their bed, wrapped in his robe and brushing her hair.
"You seem...cheerful..."
"That's a word for it," he replied grumpily, pulling off his boots. Then he glared at the left leg of his trousers. He hadn't come up with a good excuse for how he'd ended up with scratches on his leg and tears in his pants yet... but now was the time. Badia would certainly want to know, and he wasn't sure his ego could take explaining about his misadventures while looking for kittens.
Predictably, his wife's sharp eyes noticed the torn pants...and the bit of blood that had seeped through. "Fielton, _what_ have you done to yourself?!"
Badia set the brush down and went to him, bending down and tugging at his pants. "I want these off immediately so I can see if you'll need this washed and some salve put on it!" She shook her head. Lady Lindria had been right--men did the most ridiculous damage to themselves and their clothing!
Fielton obeyed, tossing the pants onto the chair and propping his leg up on the footrest. "It's just a scratch. Had an accident."
Badia shook her head and went to get a cloth to clean the cut. "It's not deep so no salve...what sort of accident?"
"A minor one," Fielton replied, as if this was a perfectly valid explaination.
One very large snort emerged from his very small wife. "Very expansive reply. I suppose I can't accuse you of talking too much, now can?" She daubed at the scratches with her cloth. "Looks like you fell in a bramble bush...or something."
Fielton winced, wondering if he should have seen a healer instead of bringing the scratches home to his wife. The way she was poking at him, he might _need_ a healer by the time it was over! "Do you think you've learned enough from Miryene to mend my pants?"
"Probably not, but I can try. Or she can take pity on me and do them also..." She smiled up at him, her touch gentling. "You're not going to tell me how you got these are you?"
"It's not important," he replied, shifting a little in the chair as he watched her finish her work with the scratches. He thought that today, he could be forgiven for wanting to tumble his pretty little wife into bed before they'd even had dinner. She looked adorable when she was frustrated with him. It almost made him want to frustrate her more--but not too much, as he remembered all too well what it was like to have a wife who wasn't willing to be tumbled into bed.
Satisfied that her husband hadn't permanently damaged himself, Badia set the cloth aside. "You've an odd look in your eyes..." She smiled and slipped into his lap. "And, I'm no healer, but I think you'll be fine..."
The fact that his pants had been discarded and his wife was now sitting in his lap pretty much guarenteed that the odd look in his eyes was not going away any time soon. "I think I'll be just fine as well, wife. Thank you for caring for me."
"Just doing my wifely duty. Like with the boots?" She let her robe--his robe--slip 'accidentally'. "Among other things..."
He upended her world in a highly impatient surge of strength, dropping her onto their bed and watching her with intense eyes as he pulled his tunic over his head and dropped it on the floor. He was starting to suspect from the gossip around the Hall that it wasn't natural for a man his age to spend this much time enjoying his wife's wifely duties... but he imagined not a lot of men his age had such a wife who performed said duties with such...
enthusiasm.
Badia was left staring up at her quickly disrobing husband, a look of mild surprise..and excitement on her face. It was both unsettling and arousing to be able to stir such a reaction out of anyone. With trembling fingers, she opened the robe completely, licking her lips, just a tad. "You seem...anxious, husband..."
"Do I?" His hands slid the robe off her shoulders, letting it fall to the bed. "Maybe it's because I have such a beautiful woman waiting for me when I come home..."
Her hands rose to settle on his shoulders. "How can I not be waiting diligently when you shower me with compliments...." She let her lips brush against his. It was odd...her impressions from the others in the Hall were of a much different man altogether, but with her, he was always so gentle...and even when he wasn't, she didn't seem to be able to mind, truly.
Right now he was being a little more insistant than gentle as he pushed her back onto the bed and followed her, kissing her with considerable energy. He pulled back to smile down at her as he stretched out on his side next to her, one hand tracing slowly down her body. "Just the truth, Badia. You _are_ beautiful."
She smiled. "And you're very handsome. But I've told you that before..." She wondered if his previous wife had been insane or merely just stubborn not to have wanted to stay married to someone like Fielton. He was arrogant and could be rather annoying, but he wasn't a bad man...and he certainly made wifely duties pleasant!
"Mmmm..." He didn't say anything else, instead choosing to kiss her again. Obviously he wasn't much in the mood for conversation.

Fielton collapsed at his wife's side, his face pressed against her shoulder. "Goodness, Badia..."
She managed a weak laugh and turned her head so their foreheads met. She figured that was the only body part she trusted not to explode if he touched her. "I suppose means you're as happy as I am about right now..."
"I'm very happy," he agreed in a breathless voice. Kittens could climb his leg and scratch his pants up all day long if he came home to Badia.
"Good..." Shards, she could barely move, let along keep her eyes open. "You make me happy too."
Fielton smiled at his wife fondly as he arranged them a little more comfortably in the bed. "I'm glad, wife."
Badia merely smiled, finding it unnecessary to add that she'd be even more happy with the kitten that she wasn't supposed to know Fielton had gone looking for.
After all, he'd more than made it up to her...
