Birigundi

Birigundi

"Shards, I only have two sevens," Birigundi sighed, watching as his dragonpoker chips once again slipped away. "I thought for sure you were bluffing."

"Hah!" Rigella snorted and collected the chips. Playing dragonpoker was pleasant way to fill the time, while she waited her baby to be born.
Besides, she was developing into a good poker player.

"And I'm out. Again," he sighed, looking down at his empty space on the table where his chips had once been so neatly and proudly stacked. Now they were all on her side! "Just who taught you how to play dragon poker anyway?"

"My oldest brother actually. It gave us kids something to do during the winters when we were pretty much locked in," Rigella replied.

"Winter nights do have a tendency to stretch," Birigundi agreed. Those were the nights when they would round the guests up round the fire and start singing cheery songs to pass the time.

"And parents tend to lose they tempers if you play tag indoors," Rigella grinned mischievously.

"I envy you, you know. I never had any brothers or sisters." Birigundi was determined that Lyndi and Rigella's baby would be the very best of friends!

"Yes, it was fun and sometimes irritating. Mother would have liked to have more, but father didn't," Rigella told him.

"Do you want more?" he asked curiously.

"I don't know yet. I have to see how it goes with this one first," she said and patted the belly. It showed that she had only month left of her pregnancy and she felt huge.

Shards, he hated that. Every time she patted her stomach it just reminded him that there was only a month left and he _still_ hadn't said a word to Nia... "But how many had you hoped for before? I'm sure you thought about it..."

"When I was little girl, I wanted two or three children," Rigella shrugged.

"Its a good number. I used to think two or three were enough. Now I don't think I'd be happy until I have a whole cot full of kids running around." Just the thought of it brought a huge grin to his face.

"Well, you're well on your way to it," Rigella laughed.

Birigundi snorted, but grinned. "I didn't mean to have them all at the same time, of course."

"I'm sure you didn't, who would?" Rigella remarked. She wanted to add that men usually had those children with same woman too, but kept her mouth.
No need to rub on it.

"Just because its not the way I'd planned it, doesn't mean I'd change a thing," he assured her, picking up the cards again and giving them a good shuffle.

"At least you're facing your resbonsibilities, unlike some other weyrpeople," Rigella replied. She knew many weyrbreds who didn't know their fathers. At least her baby wouldn't be one of those.

"Fathers are important," he shrugged, dealing the cards out
half-heartedly. "I never really had a father, but I know that much, at least."

"Yes, they are," Rigella said quietly.

Birigundi really didn't know what to say when she had that look on her face. Before he could distract her with sex. Of course, that's how she ended carrying his child. Now... Shards, what could you say? "Do... you want to stop playing for a while?"

"No, not perfore I've cleaned you from your chips," Rigella replied cheerfully and little bit maliciously.

"Well, that shouldn't take too long," Birigundi sighed dramatically as he threw his ante into the middle. If he couldn't offer her his body to ease her sorrow, at least she could have his pride...
