Finally Finding Help

Writers: Patrick, Roxanne
Date Posted: 1st July 2007

Characters: Saria, D'wrayt
Description: Saria finally finds help for her "problem" from a like minded individual.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 19 of Turn 4

The voices wouldn't stop. Saria stumbled down the steps and into the bowl. Even though she knew they were dragon's now she couldn't get past the fact that she wasn't crazy. She had tried to block them out but each attempt just opened her mind to more pain. She could barely see with all the voices rushing through her head. Why wouldn't they stop? She so wanted them to stop.

Saria didn't see the Weyrleader behind her as she stumbled away from another landing dragon.

D'wrayt watched the young woman as she shied away from the blue that was landing in the bowl. She looked like she was in pain, but it was a pain he knew well. He had been far younger than she was when his parents realized that he could hear dragons. It had become a way of life for him and led him into dragonhealer training before he Impressed Treadoryth.
"Are you alright?" he asked as he caught her before she could hit the ground.

"I don't know." She didn't care who knew she could hear dragons as long as they could make the voices stop. "I can't get them out of my head. Everywhere I turn its another dragon, another voice. It hurts to _think_!" She clutched to the mans arms fiercely, scared her legs wouldn't hold her up anymore.

"Why don't we go inside? I can help you much easier that way." he said remembering when he had first learned how to sheild his mind from the dragons. It used to give him such a headache to hear all the dragons until he was taught how to distance himself from them.

"You can help me?" Saria's eyes opened wide in shock and relief. "You can hear them too?" The pain forgotten for a moment, Saria stood a bit straighter and took weight off of the man.

"Yes. I've heard them since I was three turns old." he replied with a chuckle. She looked so surprised to hear that someone else could hear the dragons. He was surprised she hadn't been pointed out to him when she first arrived, but then he had a lot more to do lately than listen to the dragon chatter.

That must mean... "You're the Weyrleader?" She asked in disbelief, attempting to take more weight off of his shoulders. He shouldn't be helping her he had more pressing matters to handle.

}:Bring the egg over here.:{ Saria heard another dragon say just then. She stopped walking to cover her ears. "Stop talking!" she practically screamed to the unknown dragons.

D'wrayt wanted to get her indoors where there wouldn't be a chance of her getting hurt. Threadfall was over and the riders were going to be washing their dragons soon. He had finished all the post fall checks and was waiting on reports to be delivered by his wingleaders. He had been on his way to the infirmary to check on the injured riders when he had spotted her. "I was on my way to the infirmary. I can get them to give you something that will help and teach you how to block out their voices." he said putting a hand on her shoulder comfortingly.

"Really?" She looked at him with slightly wild eyes.
"They have stuff that can do that? I've tried everything. All the herbs I know, everything."

"It's more of a combination of several things." he replied not really sure how to explain it.

"Oh," Saria said. Again with the meekness. Ever since she'd learned she could hear dragons she'd become the quiet holder girl she'd never planned to be. What was wrong with her?

"How long has it been since you realized what was happening?" he asked as they walked through the weyrbowl towards the entrance to the caverns.

Saria took deep breaths to keep her voice under control. She couldn't start screaming in front of the Weyrleader. "Just since I got to the Weyr. A bit less than a sevenday."

"You seem to be holding up well." he said reassuringly knowing that she needed to hear that despite what she might think. She probably thought that she was a mess, but time would help her to reign in her abilities and she would become a valuable assistant during threadfall.

"Honestly?" She snorted slightly. "I feel like I just rolled myself around on the ground for the last sevenday. Everything is sore and my clothing looks a mess." She looked at her clothing in mild disgust.
"I haven't baked anything in days." she said in mock asperity.

They had reached their destination. D'wrayt smiled and said, "It will get better. Can you think of someplace that is queit and relaxing?" He had learned that technique from a mindhealer and it usually worked for awhile. He wanted her to experience being able to block them out to show her that it is possible.

Saria took a deep breath and composed herself. She could do this she had help now. She closed her eyes in an attempt to clear her head. They were close too... "My weyr! We can go there its not far." She said excidedly, feeling like a small child who had finally gotten something right.

"Lead the way, Saria. I'm going to talk with Treadoryth for a moment." he said to give her a warning so as not to frighten her. **Has the Dolphin Cove Weyrleader arrived yet?** he asked wanting to be there when he did arrive.

}:Not yet. I will let you know when he does.:{ the bronze replied making sure to direct his reply only to D'wrayt.

**Thank you. I'm going to help Saria as much as I can for the moment. It might take awhile.** he replied before turning back to the young woman.

"Could you hear him?" he asked curiously as they continued down the corridor.

Saria shook her head, her eyes growing wide. "No I didn't. How did you do that?" She asked in amazement, pulling her key from an apron pocket and unlocking her weyr door.

"Dragons can speak only to their riders or they can let anyone hear them who is able to. They will even talk to those who can't if they so choose."
D'wrayt explained.

"Thats amazing! I've been hearing parts of conversations that I know I shouldn't have heard.
Intimate moments, dragon-rider secrets, its made me feel so vulgar hear them." She shivered slightly at some of the things she heard. "Would you care for something to eat?" She asked politely, suddenly very concious of how messy her weyr looked.

"I'm fine. Thank you for the offer, though. Describe for me what you do when you attempt to block them out, if you can." he requested as he needed an idea of what she was doing so he could help her tune them out.

"Well I often rub my temples. And I scrunch my eyes tight when it gets really bad." Saria said, looking at her hands which were shaking. SHe had such trouble asking for help, but she knew this was right.

"I see and does it help at all?" he probed getting an idea of what might help.

"Sometimes." Saria said with a weak smile. "Sometimes I only think it does."

}:D'wrayt, Dolphin Cove's Weyrleader is on his way.:{ Treadoryth informed his rider as he had been requested to do.

"I've got to go, but try making your mind as blank as can be and see if that helps. I'll come back by and check on you later." he said not wanting to leave her in the state she was in, but knowing he had to. He was waiting on his fellow Weyrleader's arrival so that he could find out what help was needed at Dolphin Cove.
