Teseada

Teseada

"Hey!" Teseada spotted the other girl across the dining cavern and waved.
"There's room here."

Kiala smiled gratefully and, dodging other people and benches, managed to make it over. "Whew! Why is it so busy in here today?" she said as she put her cup of klah and plate of food down. "So how's your day been?" she said in a tired voice.

"No idea why its like this today," replied Teseada as she reached out to pour some juice from the pitcher in front of her. "Are you okay? You sound tired."

"Yes, I'm okay, but you're right about being tired. For some reason, it has just been busy today! Have you heard if anything is supposed to be going on?"

"No, not tonight. Or not that I know of anyway."

"Well, I wish something was," Kiala replied and took a mouthful of food.
"If there was, at least I'd feel like there was a reason for this crowd.
Speaking of crowds, I just returned from Dolphin Cove Weyr's Hatching a few days ago. That was interesting, let me tell you."

"I bet," part of Teseada was glad her friend had come back, it would have been a long few months without her. But she did know what it was like to stand and watch others walk of the sands as weyrlings though, and that could hurt. "Are you okay about that?"

Kiala shrugged. "Yes and no. Yes because I was able to come back here and this has truly become my home. No because I still want to Impress and, as hard as it would be to be somewhere different, at least I would finally be a rider and have my own dragon. It's been hard, lately, because I'm getting close to the end of my Impression years," she replied, looking a bit downcast.

"Don't give up." A shudder went through her as she thought what might have been had she not been there for Onnyth. "You just don't know what will happen out there on the sands."

"That's exactly what I think. So, I just keep going up there, time and again and hope that my dragon is out there. Although, it is a bit hard when I see someone who is 12 or 13 or even 14 turns old Impressing when I feel like I've been doing it for so long," Kiala replied, poking at her food.

"And when you least expect it, she'll be there for you."

Kiala smiled at Teseada. "Thanks for the reassurance. It really does help.
So, you haven't had any more problems with Y'nub or men in general right?"
Kiala asked and smiled at her friend.

"No, I'm staying away from men for now."

Kiala laughed. "Smart girl. Sometimes it seems men just aren't worth the trouble. So have you done anything new or interesting lately though?"

"Not unless you count the hidework that got landed on me today."

"Well, no I can't say that I do count that. So, is it really that hard to be a goldrider? It sure sounds like you have a lot to keep you busy," she replied, tucking in to her meal.

"I do, but you see the other colours are busy as well. They have drills and other duties to do, ask my Da!"

Kiala laughed. "So I've noticed! Although, I have to admit, it sure is nice seeing all the dragons and their riders doing the drills since we don't see you all fighting Thread."

"And that's the scary bit."

"Definitely! Although, I hope I get to Impress so I can be up there fighting with you all. Speaking of Impressing, I'll be going to River Bluff Weyr for their next Hatching also," Kiala said.

"I'll come and see you impress, if I can make it."

KIala smiled. "I'd like that. I know my family won't be able to come, so it'll be nice having a friend there, especially if I do Impress."

"If there's anyone you want me to bring?" asked Teseada.

"Really? Wow, if my Da could come he would love that! Teseada, that would be amazing if he could come!" Kiala said and laughed in delight. "He's never been able to come up and visit me or see any of my Standings! Wow!"

"Well maybe I can organise it."

Kiala shook her head in wonder. "That'd be great! He came to the first few but, when I didn't Impress, I told him he didn't have to come to every single one since I knew he was busy. He told me I always had to send him a note, though, letting him know what happened, which I've always done."

"This time he'll see you leave the sands a rider, I'm sure."

"Maybe you being there will be lucky for me too," Kiala said and grinned.
"Besides, if you're able, I'd think it'd be great if you were there. After all, you are my friend and if I do Impress, I'd like to be able to brag to you just a little bit!"

"I'm sure you'll be able to show her off to me."

Kiala laughed. "That I will! We'll see though."

"We'll see indeed."

"Well, I suppose I should be getting along. I wanted to take a bath before heading off to bed. Same place tomorrow?" Kiala asked.

"Definitely, but your turn to find a table."

"Sounds good!" Kiala replied, gathering up her items.

"Tomorrow evening then."
