N'vanik

N'vanik

Saria grinned as she felt the presense of a bronze dragon as she approached the lake. **Hi Loseth** She called to him, proud of her newfound ability to use her mind to talk to dragons. She knew so many dragons and their names from conversations she caught around the Weyr but she didn't know nearly as many riders.

Struck with a sudden thought she inquired, **Is your rider around?**

}:He's on the shore, reading a book,:{ the bronze answered.

**I'm so sorry Loseth but which one of them is he?** There were quite a few riders reading books on the shore.

}:The one closest to me.:{ N'vanik had, as usual, picked a spot away from other riders, and Loseth was lounging near him in the shallows.

Saria nodded and walked ocloser to the rider and dragon. She stopped next to the lounging bronzerider.
"Uh, is this seat taken?" She asked calmly looking at the spot on the ground next to him.

N'vanik looked up from his book and glanced her over quickly. He shrugged. "No."

Saria tried to ignore the quick dismissal and decided to go with the open approach. "I thought you looked lonely and Loseth said you normally sit by yourself." She said as she sat down next to him.

"For a reason." But he smiled as he said it. "You a new transfer?"

"No." She said simply. "I'm not a rider." she looked out at the few frolicking dragons in the water. "Though sometimes I wish I was." She said, more to herself than N'vanik.

He tilted his head and frowned. "Then how did Loseth tell you something?"

"I asked him." Saria said simply. "I asked him where you were and he said you were off sitting by yourself."

}:She can hear me. She can hear all of us,:{ Loseth said at the same time.

N'vanik looked confused for a moment and then an eyebrow went up. "Oh. You're that girl."

**Are you just talkin to everybody now?** he asked his bronze.

}:She's nice,:{ Loseth replied.

"Glad to know you've heard of me." Saria said, her smile there not only to confuse the man but also at Loseth's comment which she had heard. "That girl has a name too I'm sure you're surprised to know, It's Saria." Her voice was light and didn't hold the sting her sarcasm could hold if she meant it. She wasn't hear to alienate anyone.

"Well, Saria, I'm N'vanik." He offered his hand.

Saria took the hand and returned his grip firmly. "Nice to meet you N'vanik." Saria smile turned congenial. "If you're too into that book I'll just sit here and chat with Loseth." She said, not wanting to interrupt him.

He looked down at his book and considered. "I suppose I could spare a few minutes. The book isn't quite as cute."

Saria's blush was almost unknowticable as she brushed a strand of curly brown hair away from her face. "Was that a compliment to me or a slander to the book?" She asked coyly.

A little smile twitched his lips. "Take a guess."

Saria sidled that much closer to N'vanik, looking down at him as he lay there. "I'm going to say the book, but I have a sneaking suspicion I'm wrong." She said.

"That you are." His smile grew. Saria's smile grew a bit taunting as she leaned in closer to him, not interested in anything sexual, just enjoying the game and the fact that she was headache free. "Now why would a guy like you want to sit alone on a beach with a book, when he could be out doing things like this?" She asked coyly, laying down beside him, her lips mere inches from his ear as she brushed a lock of hair away from his face.

"Maybe I was waiting for a girl like you to come along." The hand closest to her reached out to brush along her thigh. Since she was new to the Weyr, she might just be teasing, and part of him thought it was fine if Saria was. **She really is ruining me,**
N'vanik mused, thinking of Talryne.

"Aw you flatter me." She said as she trailed a finger down his buttons, her lips touching his earlobe while she spoke. She ignored the slightly far away look in his eye. She wouldn't let it go too far so he really had nothing to worry about if he was waiting for someone else. She understood.

"How do you like Weyrlife so far?" he asked. "Have you taken advantage of some of our freedoms?" His hand went up her thigh and around her waist. Then again, it might be nice if she _wasn't_ just teasing.

"Oh there are some parts that aren't so good," She paused as she slid that much closer so their thighs touched through their pants fabrics. "And then there are parts that are very good." She was glad she'd gone to the Weyr instead of North. The Weyr was so much more fun. She looked up to him as she lay an arm across his shoulder.

N'vanik leaned down, brushing his lips against hers.

Saria was only mildly surprised and pressed her lips back slightly. "And this would be one of the better things." She said with a smile before leaning back to kiss him again.

He pressed closer against her as they kissed. His lips moved from hers down her jaw to her ear. "And what other good things are there?"

"Oh you know," Saria said as she moved her lips to his jawline and neck. "Handsome bronzeriders, cute browns and nervous blues. It gives me so much choice."

"You made a good choice today." His fingers inched under the hem of her tunic.

"Nu-uh-uh." Saria said catching his searching hand with hers. "I may be weyrfolk now, but my poor old holdbred beliefs won't let me have this kind of fun in the open." She smiled wickedly. "But if you'd like to continue this in my weyr I'd gladly show you the place." She continued, a lusty glint in her eyes.

He hesitated for a brief moment, then returned her smile. "Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that."

"Wonderful." Saria said and leaned in for another kiss.
