She'd spoken to the Weyrleader to check in, being as it was his job to oversee the wings. But Eridhiya did have a second role, as a dragonhealer, which was a Weyr Crafter, so she headed to speak to the Weyrwoman next. She had Avesith announce her first before knocking on the door. "Weyrwoman Tsaera?" she inquired.
Tsaera looked up from her desk and smiled. "Eridhiya. Welcome.
Please, come in." Tabanirth had informed her when Avesith had appeared over the Weyr, and when she'd gone to speak with Nikornath's rider. Tabanirth had whispered into her mind when the other woman was standing outside the door.
Eridhiya came in and smiled at the Weyrwoman, taking a seat. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady."
"I'm 'Weyrwoman' or 'Tsaera' - I lost the title of 'Lady' when Thread returned," Tsaera said. "And I must say that I'll have to claim the greater pleasure in meeting you. Traelyn and J'darin were quite sorry to lose you to me, but I'm delighted to have you and your skills at River Bluff Weyr."
"I'm honoured to be here, Weyrwoman. I enjoyed my time at Dolphin Cove, but having been there so long, and with the Weyrdragonhealer position here, I felt like it was time to move."
"And we certainly do need you here. I've had Solieira transfer the things you sent ahead to your new office, and you'll no doubt want a few days to settle in and acclimatize yourself. At least, coming from Dolphin Cove, you'll be somewhat used to the weather, although the humidity here tends to be higher."
"I'm sure I'll get used to it. I've always preferred heat." Eri admitted. "Have you been without a Master for long?"
"For approximately six months. Too long." Frustration flitted briefly across the Weyrwoman's face before she wrestled her expression back under control. "Dragonhealers are always in high demand and Masters especially so, and I must admit that I had stopped trying to recruit as aggressively after the disasters at Dolphin Cove. We've had several applications but only a few that were promising, and of those one declined the transfer and the other was unable to adjust to the climate."
Eri supposed she was fortunate to have always been in roughly the same climate. "I will do my best to not let you down then."
The Weyrwoman smiled. "What do you expect from your time here?" she asked.
"Expect?" Well, she'd certainly not expected a question like that! "I don't know if I expect anything, per se. A chance to do my duty and what I do best."
"Naturally. _I_ expect you to do your job, and I trust you to do it well. But what do you expect from River Bluff Weyr, that you were unable to find at Dolphin Cove?" She'd just gained a Master Dragonhealer, and Tsaera didn't want to lose her just as quickly.
Hmm. That was a good question. "I wanted the opportunity to be a Weyrdragonhealer." Eri said truthfully. "Perhaps it sounds arrogant, but I know I have the capability to be one, so why not choose the position? And Dolphin Cove..." She hesitated.
"Yes?"
"If I may speak frankly, I have nothing against my Weyrleaders. But there were too many memories there. The destruction of Topaz and the recent hurricane just solidified my desire to get away." Losing Topaz had been the hardest- so many memories there. The hurricane had brought them all up for her.
A shadow crossed the Weyrwoman's face. "I lost my son-in-law to the hurricane at Topaz Sea Hold. I can empathize..." She banished the shadow as quickly as it had come, and the face she turned to the Crafter was closed and confident. "I hope that you can find the escape that you're looking for, then, but I sincerely hope that you also find more than just that at my Weyr. Your report is nothing short of glowing and I have full confidence in your ability to take up the knots of the Weyrdragonhealer."
Eri couldn't help but wince as the Weyrwoman told her of her loss.
She'd helped with the cleanup, seen the devastation... anyone who had been there or known people there were marked for their life. "I appreciate your confidence, ma'am. If the rest of the Weyr is in your own model, I should find it a very welcoming place indeed."
"I should hope so." The Weyrwoman reached back and tugged at a bell pull that dangled next to the wall. "Now. I'll have someone take you to your weyr, or your office, or to see my Headwoman, if you wish. I'd imagine that you'd like a chance to get settled in."
"I think I'd prefer to see my weyr first, as Avesith is complaining about the baggage." Eridhiya said with a smile. "After that I can go everywhere else. As soon as I familiarize myself with the place, though, I'm willing to start taking up my duties. There's no point in making the Weyr wait any longer than it has to."
"Take your time." There was a light knock at the door. "That'll be someone to lead you to your weyr. Thank you for coming, Master Eridhiya."
"I appreciate your taking the time to speak with me." Eri replied.
"Talk to my Headwoman if you need anything for your weyr or office.
She'll be delighted to help you find what you need."
"I'm sure. And who better to help me find things?" Eri smiled. "Thank you, Weyrwoman."
"You're welcome. Have a good afternoon, and I hope that you settle in quickly." The Weyr had made do for long enough - the sooner the Master Dragonhealer was settled properly, the happier Tsaera would be.
