Description: Kapera and D'wrayt watch as Riyanth clutches 42 eggs.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 14 of Turn 4
Kapera reached out to her lifemate. **Riyanth, can you see if D'wrayt's free?**
}:Treadoryth, is yours free?:{ Riyanth asked, lifting her head to eye the bronze dragon and croon at him before returning to regarding her Weyr. She surveyed everything, making sure everything was just right, but paid particular attention to the Hatching Grounds.
Treadoryth knew that his rider was not truly busy, but enjoying a moment with his infant son. }:Riyanth's rider is looking for you.:{ he informed D'wrayt without even bothering to ask if he was busy.
D'wrayt had stopped by to see his son before he headed back to his office.
Treadoryth's message made him remember that he had to get back to work.
**Ask where I can meet her at, please.** he replied handing his son over to the boy's aunt who had kindly come to be a fostermother to his grandchildren and his son.
Treadoryth didn't reply simply relaying the message on to his mate, }:He is free. Where can he meet your rider?:{ }:He should meet her in her office.:{ Riyanth shifted around, looking over at the bronze again.
}:He'll be there shortly, then.:{ the bronze replied. He informed D'wrayt of the Weyrwoman's whereabouts and then returned to his sunning.
He was going to take advantage of it as long as he could.
D'wrayt knocked on the door to Kapera's office. As he waited, he thought of the various goldriders who had occupied the office over the turns he had been a rider. Each of them had possessed a distinct style in decorating and he wondered if Kapera had redone the office. His own office was functional and not very decorated as he didn't want to spend a lot of time in it than he absolutely had to.
"Come in!" Kapera said, moving the papers to a corner of her desk so she could see properly. "Take a seat. There's klah here if you want some."
D'wrayt settled into a chair with a mug of klah taking a sip before looking over at his Weyrwoman. "What can I do for you?" he asked curious as to her need for a meeting. Not that he minded having an excuse to spend more time with the goldrider.
"I just wanted to talk to you. We've both been busy with work, but we should spend time together." She didn't want to work with someone she didn't feel comfortable spending time with.
"Ah, that we should. Have you settled into your new weyr allright?" he asked in total agreement of getting to know each other better since they were going to be working together.
"I have. It's roomier, but not by much; all of the queen weyrs are fairly large. It was mostly finding a new way to decorate." Kapera didn't have much in the way of possessions when she Impressed, but she'd accumulated some sculptures and things over the Turns, and she liked to display them.
Her favorite piece was on the desk, one of an egg cracking and a dragon head poking out of it.
"I know the feeling. How does it feel to be Weyrwoman?" he asked curious for her take on her new position. He remembered how he had felt when Treadoryth had won the gold flight that took him from Weyrlingmaster to Weyrleader overnight. He had been in a dark place at that time having recently lost his weyrmate and unborn child, but having to look after the Weyr had pulled him out of that place. Even now, he wondered if he would ever get to know lasting happiness without losing the women he loved to untimely deaths.
"Nice." she said honestly. She wouldn't lie- hearing herself called 'Weyrwoman' was intoxicating at times. The added respect in people's eyes was nice as well. But the extra hidework was annoying- ah, but it was the price of success.
}:Mine, D'wrayt,:{ Riyanth suddenly said, taking flight off of the heights and gliding towards the Hatching Grounds, }:come meet me here.:{ The gold didn't usually refer to riders by their names, but since she was deliberately addressing her mate's rider as well, she did. }:It is time for my eggs.:{ D'wrayt looked at Kapera excitedly. He always felt excitement at the news of a gold about to clutch and even more so when it was his bronze who had sired the clutch. It wouldn't take long to get to the Hatching grounds and he knew Treadoryth was headed that way as well. "We don't want to keep her waiting, do we?" he said with a grin.
"Not particularly." she said with a smile, accompanying him there.
Riyanth had already laid one egg by the time they got there, a lightly-purpled one. She crooned as they entered and crooned again at Treadoryth.
}:This will be a good clutch.:{ Treadoryth told his rider confidently as he admired the egg that had already been laid.
D'wrayt nodded and said, "Treadoryth says that this will be a good clutch and I am well inclined to believe him. Faranth knows the Weyr needs it to be."
}:Of course it will be, it is one of mine.:{ Riyanth said haughtily.
"She agrees with you both." Kapera laughed at her dragon's ego. Inwardly, though, she was very proud of Riyanth. To have made her Weyrwoman and to have the first clutch that Dragonsfall so badly needed was wonderful.
Riyanth, for her part, was busy producing more of the precious eggs.
"I would be worried if she didn't." D'wrayt replied with a chuckle.
"Metallics have such ego." Kapera said fondly.

It was 2 candlemarks later. Riyanth was finally done laying her eggs.
Kapera had had to chase out anyone else who came into the Sands for any reason; Riyanth hadn't wanted anyone but her and D'wrayt there and no dragons but Treadoryth, and would bellow if she noticed anyone else trying, so Kapera had ordered that no one be allowed in.
The laying was finally done, and there were 42 beautiful eggs. **Can anyone see them now?**
The gold stopped her nudging of the eggs into perfect formation. }:No.:{ she replied. }:Not yet. Not today.:{ "She's not going to let anyone but us see them today." Kapera relayed with a sigh. "We'll have to announce the number. She will let up before the Hatching though." she assured D'wrayt.
"42 eggs. We can announce it at the evening meal if you want to."
D'wrayt replied looking out at the eggs that were going to be their new weyrlings before they knew it. He couldn't help but be more proud of this clutch as they needed it more so than any other clutch that Treadoryth had sired.
**Wonderful job, Riyanth. Would you like Treadoryth to get you something to eat?** D'wrayt asked the gold knowing she had to be exhausted after all that effort to lay that large of a clutch.
}:I would indeed.:{ Riyanth replied, curling up on the Sands.
"I'd love to announce it. I think the Weyr deserves to know this soon.
It is good news."
"It is very good news, indeed. I think that this calls for a special celebration. Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" D'wrayt asked watching as Treadoryth left to get his mate some food so that she wouldn't have to leave her clutch so soon. He wanted to tell everyone on Pern about their clutch of new eggs and couldn't wait until they made the announcement.
"I think that's a splendid idea." Kapera answered.
