Alone Time

Characters: Supaka
Description: Supaka and Kessel spend a quiet evening
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 7, day 9 of Turn 4

"She wants you to tuck her in." Supaka smiled at Kessel - her mother smile, the one that said, *Indulge her. She loves you.*. She knew the child was positively wearing him out. She seemed to be trying to fit months of attention into the few days of Kessel's visit. He heaved himself off of the couch, sighed and headed to Selka's room.

Supaka heard soft whispering and Selka's giggle as she moved to the table to get a wineskin and cups. She settled herself onto the couch next to the spot recently vacated by her husband and poured. Just as she eased back and took her first sip, Kessel returned. "She's not out yet, but she will be soon. All that swimming today really did her in." She sighed. "Good. Thank you. I can't believe how that child can resist sleep when she is so tired."

He came toward her and picked up the other cup. Sitting beside her, he lifted her legs and laid them across his lap. She rubbed her eyes with her free hand. "I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted. When Selka is awake, I want the three of us to spend every minute together, so the only time you and I have together alone is at night. How many hours of sleep do you think we've had in the last 3 days?"

He chuckled. "Not enough, but if I have to choose between time with you and sleep, you'll win every time."

"Thank you, I know." She leaned her head against his shoulder.

"Do you want to ask someone to watch her for a few hours tomorrow?"

"No. As much as I want alone time with you, Selka needs you more. She needs her family around her as much as possible while you're here." She took a sip of wine. "I don't want to take a minute away from her. I'll sleep after you've sailed again." She smiled.

"Agreed." He yawned and tried to stifle it. "You know I miss you too. I miss us. I mean, I adore Selka and I love our family, but I do miss us too."

She nodded. It seemed like he understood her. As usual, he had given her the affirmation that she needed. Relaxing into his validation of her feelings, she sighed and took another sip of wine. He wrapped her in his arms and held her. After a time, she lifted her head and chuckled, "Do you remember that time we were anchored north of Coral Bay, and we went swimming naked in the middle of the night?" "Mm hmm," grinning, he stroked her hair.

"I was thinking about all of the impulsive things we used to do, ."

"And most of them were your idea," he interjected She laughed as his statement was truth. "Yes, and you just can't resist me, can you?"

"Guilty as charged."

"But I was wondering, who ¬_were_ those two people? And where _are_ they?"
She continued. "When was the last time we let go and did something spontaneous?"

"Well, it's been a long time, love, but we're still the same people. When Selka is a little older, we can spend more time together in privacy and you can continue be a bad influence on me." He raised an eyebrow in challenge.

She acknowledged his joke. "That's why we work so well, my dear. I corrupt you and you anchor me. As neither one of us is completely successful in our endeavors, it results in a perfect balance for both of us." She smiled.
"Seriously, I know this arrangement is temporary, and it is in Selka's best interest, so I'm at peace with our decision. I just yearn for our old life sometimes."

"We'll have it again soon enough. And then you'll be wondering how the years went by so quickly. Selka will be grown and then you will yearn for your baby again."

"Right. But right now I'm yearning for you, so why don't you check to see that Selka is asleep." He grinned as he moved her legs and went to Selka's room. When he returned and nodded in affirmation, she smiled again - a different smile this time - one she used only when they were alone. She stood and moved toward him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Now then, would you like me to attempt a bit of corruption?" Without waiting for an answer, she kissed him deeply.

"Please do." He said between kisses. "Please do."
