Description: U'kaiah kindly patronizes the young girl after she failed to Impress
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 11 of Turn 4
That girl certainly knew how to put on a good show, U'kaiah thought as he fell into step with the Candidate. "Please tell me _that's_ not what you're planning to wear to the Hatching feast, Nasiria." Hidebound tongues would be waging for sure. The visiting ladies would think it oh so scandelous.
The men... well, their tongues would be waging for different reasons.
**Perfect** she thought and was pleased that she had chosen well. She hadn't Impressed, but that wasn't going to stop her from getting her share of the attention at the feast. She would have her choice of bedmates tonight. "What's wrong with what I'm wearing, Wingleader? Does it bother you?"
"Not at all," he chuckled. A true ambassador for the Weyr and all its values. At least it would give them something else to talk about besides that poor dragonet left to die on the Sands. His smile faultered slightly as he remembered the sound of the little one's cries. Thank Faranth it had been only one, but it still brought back memories of a time when a chorus of dragonets vainly searching for their lifemate would sing the Candidates off the Sands. Shaking his head, he resolved not to think about it anymore.
There was nothing they could have done differently. It was just that tiny brown's fate, and none of them could fight that. "You don't seem too broken up. That's good to see." "Why should I be?" She asked with all of the confidence she could muster.
"Contrary to popular opinion, I listen in my Weyrling classes. I know that I haven't Impressed because _my_ dragon hasn't been clutched yet. Besides, it's just more time for me to explore my womanhood before I have to become a weyrling." **And I intend to explore it further this very evening.** She smiled to herself.
U'kaiah chuckled slightly. Womanhood? Shards, even if she did Impress, she wasn't even old enough for the Wings yet. "Yes, I suppose you might have to rethink your wardrobe for a while when you _do_ Impress."
She sighed. "I suppose...for a while." She imagined herself in the most revealing leather outfit, flying on a dragon's back, her hair whipping behind her. "But for now, I enjoy dressing the way I want to," she pouted.
"I guess until I have a dragon, it'll have to do."
The Wingleader threw his head back and laughed. "Shards, you're really something, aren't you." She allowed herself to laugh with him. "I really am, bronzerider," she said, pleased with herself. "I really am." She allowed him to finish laughing and then took advantage of his good humor. "So, are you going to make me walk in there by myself, or would you be a gentleman and escort me in?"
"Aren't you afraid I would intimidate your potential conquests for the evening?" he asked teasingly.
She couldn't resist turning it around on him. "Maybe you're afraid I'll intimidate _your_ conquests for the evening." She laughed so that he would know she was kidding. After all, she didn't want to lose sight of her agenda. "No, actually, you'll just set the standard. You see, if I arrive with a handsome bronzerider, how could I leave with anything less?" U'kaiah's eyebrow raised slightly. "Oh, I see. I'm just a trophy bronzerider to you?" "I guess you could put it that way, unless you would like to be more than that?" she pressed herself to him to make her point.
Now _that_ was a bad idea... Though he had helped a few weyrlings her age before when it came time to prepare themselves for when their greens rose.
However, he was pretty sure this one needed no help in that regard. "I think I'm comfortable with the idea of being a trophy for now." Give her couple more turns and he just might be tempted. Well, tempted more...
Holding out his elbow he smiled, "Shall I escort you in then?" "Why, thank you." She flipped her hair back and took his arm. **Won't they all just die of envy when I walk in with this beautiful bronzerider.and a wingleader!** She could hardly contain herself, but took a deep breath and put on a mask of calm confidence. "I am truly grateful for your sacrifice, Wingleader, U'kaiah." She waited until just before they entered the dining cavern and added, "Just don't forget that if you ever change your mind and want to upgrade from being merely a trophy to being a true prize, my offer stands."
U'kaiah smiled. He was only one woman's prize. The rest would have to settle for the token consolation prize. "I will keep that in mind."
"Please do." She smiled, then checked her outfit one last time, then stood up straight and readied herself to enter the Hatching feast.
