Cinale

Cinale

"Please tell me, you beauty, that you have a fresh cup of klah waiting for me," the brewer said as he sat on one of the kitchen stools.

Cinale rolled her eyes at the phrase 'you beauty' and grinned as she turned around to look at him. "Still think that flattery will get you somewhere, hon?" she teased, folding her arms over her chest.

"I don't know. Do you have a pot of klah?" He asked, breathing in the scents of the kitchen, one of his favorite places.

"I'm heating it up as we speak."

"Then I guess flattery still works." He gave her a wink as he reached for one of the cookies cooling in front of him.

"Ah, ah, ah," she warned, lightly slapping his hand away from those precious cookies. "Those are supposed to be for _later,_ Daigoro."

"But I can't wait until later." He said, pleading with his eyes. "You can't tempt me with your wonderful cookies, and I know it is _your_ recipe by the smell of them, and then deny me."

"I'm certainly not denying you from them forever, hon. Just wait a while. Who knows? If you're very, very good, maybe I'll give you one before you go off to work, hmm?"

"You cruel woman." He said, sadly shaking his head and still eyeing the treats piteously. "If you only knew the fate that awaited me, you would not be so mean."

"Why do you say that? What's your cruel fate this time?" she chuckled as she took the kettle of hot klah and began pouring it into two mugs. "And do you want any sweetener?" she asked quickly before he could answer her first two questions.

"No, the only thing I want sweet is my wine, my cookies, and my cook." He answered with a wink as he took a sip of the steaming liquid. "I'm sure by now you have heard Master Tyrome is retiring."

Cinale came around the counter and took the stool next to his. "I've heard that, yes. I'm starting to listen to the whispers of my kitchen girls more often now than not."

"Do they say anything about me?" Daigoro asked, looking at her over his mug.

"Only that they love sampling your brews - when you let them, that is." She winked.

"I can't let them show up here smelling of beer, now can I." He chuckled. "Anyway, back to my terrible fate. As you know Tyrome is retiring. And I have heard it whispered on the vines that he is recommending _me_ to take his place."

She grinned at him. "And why is that such a terrible fate, hon? Sounds like your fate has twisted for the better!"

"And so it is. But that also means that my twisted fate is plopping me right alongside our illustrious Hallmaster." Daigoro's eyes rolled at the mention of Fielton. "And you know full well, Fielton and I rarely see eye to eye on things."

"Maybe not," she agreed. "But he might be in a more...shall we say...agreeable mood now that he has a lovely to greet him when he comes home at night."

"A lovely, eh? What a lovely way of putting it." He threw back the rest of his mug. "Yes, we can certainly hope for the best. But if the silly grin he wears on his face disappears, we'll know we're in trouble. The honeymoon will end eventually. It always does."

"Then take advantage of it while you can!" She shook her head, grinning. "And when that silly grin does disappear, you've already won some of the battle."

Daigoro's large frame shook as he chuckled. "Now _that_ is why I put up with your cruelty, woman."

Cinale winked at him. "What can I say, hon? If you have such a blatant advantage sitting right in front of you, don't think twice, and just take it!"

"Is that how you live your life then, Cinale?" He asked leaning a little closer towards her.

She tilted her head slightly to the side, considering. "I guess you can say that. But I'm responsible in taking those advantages, mind you. I do consider all the options first."

"Ah, but if you consider the options too long, might you not miss a good opportunity?"

"Maybe," she conceeded. "But that's why I don't overthink things, hon."

He nodded. "So your advice to me would be to take the opportunities while I can and let the kegs roll where they will?"

"But be responsible about it, hmm?"

A sly smile spread across Daigoro's face as he replied, "But I have found, my dear cook, that sometimes taking advantages in the moment, without worrying about the consequences, can be the most rewarding."

One brow quirked. "Oh? And what might those certain advantages be, I wonder?"

The brewer grinned as quickly stood, and with one hand plucked up a cookie and stuffed it in his mouth and with the other picked up the tray they were cooling on. "Thanks for the klah and cookies, my dear." He said, spitting out crumbs as he made a run for the door.

With a cry, she flung herself from the stool and chased after him, finally skidding to a stop at the doorway, bracing her hands against the side panelling. "If you pull another stunt like that, Daigoro, you'll be banned from the kitchens for a week!" she called after him. But when Cinale turned around, she was laughing and shaking her head. "Sharding man," she muttered as she made her way back towards the counter to bake replacements of the stolen cookies. "That's the last time I'm ever giving _you_ advice!"
