Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 8, day 8 of Turn 4
Endras was desperately glancing around, looking for escape. Eilomar had cornered him and now the fat master was droning away and it was all that Endras could do not to throw up. He was not a least bit interested in Eilomar's personal life. When Eilomar told about his divorce, the composers symphathy was actually on his wife's side. Back in Emerald Falls, they had been neighbours and their children had played together. But Endras had never liked Eilomar.
"Look, Eilomar, is that the Hallsecond? I haven't met her yet. Maybe we should greet her?" Endras interrupted Eilomar's monologue when he spotted the Hallsecond's arrival.
"Yes, that's master Thanja, she's woman and a printer!" Eilomar replied stiffly, annoyed by the interruption.
Endras wondered which was greater crime in Eilomar's eyes: her gender or being a printer.
On hearing her name, Thanja looked up and waved in greeting to the two men.
"Nice to see you today Master Eilomar," she called in passing.
"Nice to see you too," Eilomar grunted.
"I don't believe we have met, Hallsecond. I'm Endras, composer and travelling master harper," Endras slipped past Eilomar and offered his hand with a charming smile.
"And you too, Master Endras," she replied as she took his hand. "What brings you back to the hall?"
"A need to remind people of my excistance. Like my children," Endras replied. He bent closer and whispered to her ear only. "Help, please save me from Eilomar. He's talking me to death."
Now that was understandable. The Master had a habit of labouring the point, and dragging conversations out. "I know what you mean Master Endras. Perhaps you could tell me of your travels on my way to my office?"
"Love to," Endras grinned.
"Good day to you Master Eilomar."
"Good day to you, master Thanja," Eilomar replied. He was irritated by the interuption. He just loved the sound of his own voice.
"I'm sure your classes will be expecting you by now."
"But we were middle of something!" Eilomar protested, looking at Endras.
"I'm sure we can continue it some later time," Endras said soothingly, although he could barely disguise his grimace.
"I'm sure I'll see you later," remarked Thanja pleasantly.
"Look, Eilomar. I have some business to tend with the hallsecond. I'm sure you understand," Endras said.
Eilomar didn't understand and his face showed it. What business a composer could have with printer? "How rude," he muttered.
Thanja ignored the muttering, Eilomar was always like that, and it wasn't worth bothering with. "Master Endras, shall we go?" she said.
"With pleasure," Endras replied with courteous bow and offered her his elbow.
"How rude," Eilomar repeated again, gnashing his teeth in anger. "No respect at all, no respect!"
