See...There's This Girl

Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 15 of Turn 3

L'cian sat down with a slump and a sigh across the table from Ar'lis. "You know, I think if someone had honestly told me how often drills would leave my poor body in such a dilapitated state, I would have had to think long and hard about this profession of ours."

Ar'lis grinned and handed the younger bronzerider a full mug of klah.
"What? Not used to drills by now? Or is your body worn out from _more_
than just drills?"

L'cian wasn't exactly sure that he liked the way that Ar'lis said 'more than just drills'; it was almost like he guessed what L'cian really wanted to talk about. "A little bit of both, I suppose. Probably more of the latter..."

The look Ar'lis gave him was knowingly sly. "I see..." He took a swig of his drink, patiently waiting for L'cian to continue.

After a few moments, L'cian realized that Ar'lis was _not_ going to ask him what was the matter and that he'd have to just out and out say it. The only trouble was was that L'cian had developed a reputation for this kind of problem and he could almost predict Ar'lis's reaction.

"See.... there's this girl...."

"Mmm-hmm."

"Aaaannnndddd..... I like her." This was _not_ getting any easier.

Again, Ar'lis raised the mug to his lips, patiently waiting him out. When L'cian didn't continue, however, Ar'lis set the mug back down on the table. "Well, that's good, isn't it?"

**Well, you'll come to eventually so you might as well say it now...**
"She's really in it more for the sex than anything else - and I was, too.
But then, I kind of started to like her." He sounded almost disappointed in himself.

**I sharding hope he's not asking me for sharding advice...** Ar'lis cleared his throat. "It's not a bad thing to like the woman you're bedding, L'cian."

"No. I mean, I know that. But...." **Oh out with it.** "We kind of agreed that it wouldn't be anything... serious and now I'm honestly starting to enjoy her and I think she seeing someone else." **Whew.**

"Well... This is a Weyr, L'cian..."

"But - but" He felt like a girl. "I _like_ her even - maybe." He grew very quiet and uncharacteristically quiet.

The bronzerider stared at him. Shards. "How long have you known her?"

L'cian hesitated. How long had he known Gaiya? "A few turns... But we only recently began exploring things... beyond friendship."

"Well...maybe you should talk to her."

L'cian took the first bite of his food. "I don't think I can. I don't think she feels the same way I do."

"She may come around, L'cian." Ar'lis hid his expression behind his mug, wondering if the bronzerider knew that he was developing a pattern with all his women.

"Well thanks!" L'cian laughed and nudged Ar'lis from across the table.
"You're a lot of help!"

"You know I'm not the greatest giver of advice on women! You need to take it with the woman, L'cian, whoever she is."

"All right, all right." L'cian took a few more bites of food. "Fine talk to the girl it is..."

"Good."
