Description: Kitali and M'van greet Lidrin and Talvan as they return, along with
Kitali's mother.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 10 of Turn 4
Kitali peered up at the sky, free of clouds, Rukbat cheerfully shining in the sky. She was early, but her duties hadn't started yet and Kitali had already finished her lesson plans. Several of her old students had welcomed her back already and seemed eager to resume lessons with her. If only M'van were that eager. The harper heaved a sigh and rubbed her eyes. The light was too bright after spending the morning cooped up inside.
It was when Lavender appeared at his side, a soft 'cheep' escaping his tiny maw that M'van looked up from the notes he was transcribing.
~Kitali in the Weyrbowl~
The bluerider reached out to scratch Lavender's eye ridges, "Thank you,"
he said to the flit, projecting that feeling as well. He put the stylus he was using down, and with a pause only to tell the senior apprentice on duty that he would be outside, he left his notes for later.
Kitali was staring at the sky again when M'van arrived. She didn't notice his approach until his shadow fell across her and paused. She turned then, and hesitated, uncertain what to say or do. Finally, she stated softly, "They should be here in a few minutes."
"Not long to wait then."
"No." Well, what a great conversation they were having. "I know they'll be glad to see you."
"I missed them," short and to the point, but the truth. He'd got used to having them around, and they loved helping with Kiloth.
"They've missed you too." So had she, but Kitali wasn't sure that was what he wanted to hear at the moment. "You and Kiloth were their favourite subject in stories while we were gone."
"Nice to hear, and they'll see him soon."
"They had you rescuing a gold and her rider from certain death once."
Kitali couldn't help but chuckle a little at the memory. "It was quite a story." She decided not to mention that her children had decided she was going to get a gold dragon and she was the one he had been rescuing.
"Sounds... 'interesting'," commented the bluerider as he looked up into the sky. Sure enough, there was a spot that gradually became the form of a dragon and passengers.
"Yes." The conversation was going nowhere fast. Kitali sighed, then stepped forward as the green dragon landed with her rider and three passengers. A woman who shared Kitali's eyes and smile was helped by the greenrider and then proceeded to help Talvan and Lidrin down from their perches. The children rushed to M'van with cries of 'daddy!'. Kitali and the other woman took the bags from the greenrider, then approached after the children. Kitali motioned to her companion, "M'van, this is my mother, Alina."
Alina nodded politely to M'van, "Well met, M'van, I've heard a lot about you."
"And I you," he said as he lifted Talvan up for a hug. "Did you miss Daddy?" he asked the child.
Talvan nodded enthusiastically and returned his father's hug. Lidrin tugged at M'van's shirt, evidently expecting one too and blurted, "Where's Kiloth?"
"Sleeping on the ledge with Lavender to keep him company."
"Can we go see him?" Lidrin looked between M'van and Kitali. The harper nodded. "If M'van says it's okay."
"If you two are quiet," he put Talvan down. "You two stay together okay?"
"Okay!" Lidrin gently grasped Talvan's hand in his and whispered, "We'll be very quiet." Talvan nodded emphatically in agreement.
"I guess I'll leave you then. Just..I guess just send Lavender to me when you're ready for me to come get them." Alina cast a glance at her daughter, but didn't say anything as Kitali turned to her. "We can get you settled in for now."
"Are you staying for long?" the bluerider enquired politely.
"For a sevenday or so." Alina replied with cool politeness, her gaze studying the bluerider. "Maybe longer. We will see."
That'll be nice for you, see the children in their home."
"Yes." Alina nodded slowly, then hooked her arm into Kitali's. "Shall we leave him with the children then?"
"Uh, yes." Kitali looked at M'van and opened her mouth as if to say something. She shut it after a moment and, instead, untangled herself from her mother and gave both of her boys a hug. "You two be good." With that, she picked up a couple of bags and started off to help her mother settle in for her visit.
