Description: Fieayz arrives at the Smith Hall, and is greeted by Daynar
Location: Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 8, day 8 of Turn 3
Fieayz thanked the greenrider as she untied the last of her bundles from
the dragon. "My thanks, and my duty to you and Ranateth."
"Not a problem, replied D'gar. "I hope you'll be happy here, at least
it's a fair bit warmer."
"That it is. I forgot about how cold it could get at Amethyst Cliff."
Daynar was in the courtyard with his daughter and two of his sons, along
with the woman who had temporarily taken over the kitchens since Otriana
had been killed. Despite not wanting another girl in his house without
his wife to manage them, Daynar knew his duty.
But because of the circumstances, he was very gruff with Fieayz, staring
coolly after the greenrider. The MALE greenrider. His frown still
there, he turned to the young woman. "Well, welcome to Smithhall,
Fieayz. My sons and daughter will show you to your rooms. I expect
obedience and proper behavior." He looked at her for a moment, then
nodded. "Come along. These are my sons Dayn and Narot. Anar will be
here for a visit in a few days. MY daughter, Otrina." He nodded toward
all of them, then turned on his heel toward the Hall, leading them
inside.
Slightly surprised at Daynar's total ignoring of the greenrider, Fieayz
felt that she had very little choice but to follow Daynar's children.
However, she couldn't manage all her things by herself.
"Excuse me?" she called after the boys. "Could you help me and D'gar
carry these?"
Surprised, Daynar turned back around with a frown. "Just how many
things did you bring with you Fieayz?" He managed to make it sound
disapproving and gruff all at the same time, but he did wave his sons
over to help. "Help her, boys, but don't take all day about it!
There's work to be done." He nodded to Otrina then. "Walk with her
Otrina, and show her about the Hall."
His gaze finally alit on the male greenrider. Unnatural, it was, and it
was an unfriendly look he gave D'gar. "My duty to you, dragonrider, for
bringing the fosterling to us, but my sons and a few others can manage.
We've no need of -your- help."
Fieayz hadn't brought that much really. Being used to travelling by
dragon, she had packed more bundles than really necessary, keeping them
light,
even though Ranateth said she could manage.
D'gar understood that look only too well. No matter where he went
outside of the Weyr, there were always some who disapproved, despite the
fact that
he risked his life with Ranateth each time they flew in threadfall. "It is
time that we returned to Dragonsfall."
Daynar nodded to the greenrider. His Hall did not look to Dragonsfall,
and he did not feel as obliged to be nice to him. "Thank you,
greenrider." Then he turned his attention to Fieayz, looking her over
critically. She was pretty enough, and she was going to cause trouble,
he had a feeling.
"Come along Fieayz. We've spent enough precious time getting you
settled. There is work to be done."
"Yes sir," she said meekly. Might as well give herself a good reputation
at the start. As she followed Otrina, her flit came out of /between/ and
settled herself on her shoulder. "Stay there!" ordered Fieayz.
Daynar turned sharply at the words and the chittering of the gold flit,
and was quiet a moment. He paused his hurried step to speak to Fieayz.
"A gold is it? Well, useful no doubt, but be careful when she Rises.
This isn't a Weyr!" He cautioned her sternly.
"Yes sir, I will sir."
Daynar looked at her one last time with narrowed eyes. "You will listen
to me. You will not do anything 'unwomanly' and since my wife was
killed recently, you and Otrina are going to be responsible for running
the kitchens and the drudges and making sure that my wife's former
duties get done. Split them between you, just see to it. And welcome
to SmithHall." He finally said, calmly and rather coolly. "Otrina and
my sons will see to your comforts."
"Yes sir," was all she could reply.
