Description: J'an introduces Shayla to her buddy rider, Nytha

Date: month 8, day 3 of Turn 3

"You'll get on well with Shayla," said J'an to Nytha. "She's doing well so far. I'm glad you volunteered for this, you're closer to her age than most."

The greenrider nodded, "She knows to meet us here?"

"Yes, Alylth spoke to her Kiranth."

And at just that moment, Shayla appeared, walking rather quickly over to the Weyrlingmaster and the young woman beside him. "Good morning," she greeted once she reached them, giving them both a smile.

"Good morning Shayla," greeted J'an.

"Kiranth told me you wanted me to come..."

"Yes, yes I did. Do you know Nytha?" He indicated the other young greenrider should step forwards.

Shayla shook her head. "It's nice to meet you," the girl said, holding out her hand.

"You too," Nytha grinned. "This is the first time I've had a weyrling buddy."

So _this_ was what coming down here was for. Shayla grinned back.

"Do the pair of you understand why we do this, and what's expected of you?"

The younger woman shook her head. But she had a vague idea... "Can you tell me?"

"I've been over this with Nytha anyway, but it won't hurt to repeat it."
J'an gave the girls a smile. "You'll follow Nytha on her duties this sevenday, the next as well. You'll assist her where you can, but try not to interfere. If you have to go outside the Weyr, then you have permission to do so."

Shayla nodded, then smiled at Nytha. "So I'll be learning what it's like to be a full-fledged dragonrider then?"

"Pretty much," replied Nytha. "I'm preparing materials for drills tomorrow, that means getting the ropes ready. I've also got some messages to deliver to Dolphin Cove, so you'll just come with me there." She grinned at the younger girl. "We'll find out about tomorrow when we get back from Dolphin Cove."

"Sound good to you Shayla?" asked J'an.

"It does!" This sounded exciting - and to go to Dolphin Cove on her _first_ day!

"Any questions?" said J'an, looking to both girls.

Shayla shook her head. "No, sir."

"Then off you go. Remember that you do have drills still after lunch, you'll be expected back here for them."

Nytha nodded to the Weyrlingmaster as she led Shayla off. "Dolphin Cove first," she said cheerily.
