"Ma!" The young bluerider came into his mother's office with the barest of taps on the door. "Ma! Have you a few minutes for me?"

"An'dr! What brings you here?" asked Thanja as she smiled up at her son.
Suddenly he seemed to have shot up since she last saw him, and he looked more like his father every day.

"I brought one of the harpers here from River Bluff. And as she asked me to wait, I thought I'd take the time to pop in and say hello." He didn't mention that he'd traded this duty with a wingmate and it would cost him a favour in return sometime.

"Well your life wouldn't be worth living if you hadn't stopped by," she teased, knowing that he'd understand her meaning. "Your father will be sorry to have missed you, he's out fixing one of the presses and he'll be a while, he thought they might need to get a technician in to assist with some of the more delicate work."

"Ahh," An'dr nodded as he sat down. "How's Jakrin doing?"

"He'll be walking the tables soon, but don't let on you know as we're only just starting to plan for a group ceremony with a few of them to make Journeyman. It'll likely be on a rest day, so if you and Nytha get a chance to come over, you should, he'd appreciate it."

"And Tanrin?"

"Apprenticed to the Healers at the Weyr here."

"Really?" An'dr had been certain that his youngest would do as they all had so far, take on Printer knots. Of course Nytha had done so, and walked the tables, and now it looked likely that Jakrin would follow. He himself, well it had been expected of him, but his unexpected Impression of Pluserth had changed things forever. And he'd now come to see that he'd have only ever made an average Printer, never achieving his Mastery. "You know I'd have made a lousy Printer," he said jokingly. "Good job Pluserth saved me and you from having to deal with it.

Thanja laughed, but she knew her son well enough to detect the note of truth behind the words. It was tempting to say something, but she knew that some things were best left well alone. "Tanrin's doing well apparently. Or so I've heard," she settled for saying.

"What did Da say?"

"About his choice of craft?" Thanja waited for An'dr's nod to continue. "He wasn't happy, I mean he expected all of you to follow us as Printers. But Tanrin was very persuasive, and he worked hard to prove he was serious. I think he'll do well, and I mean that."

"Good luck to him," said An'dr seriously. "Maybe I should slip up there to see him?"

"No, leave it until next time," advised his mother. "He'd think you were sent to check up on him."

"Like I'd do that!"

"I know you wouldn't be, but he's aware your father is watching him to make sure he made the right decision. Let him have some space."

"I think I can manage that," replied the bluerider.

"I'm sure you can."
