Certainly an idea

Writers: AL, Emma

Characters: Thanja, Quistador
Description: Thanja suggests Qistador puts a proposal to the Master Printers
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 9, day 26 of Turn 4

Quistador leaned back in the chair that he had procured in the dining hall.
It was late, towards the very tail end of dinner, and most of the hall had already eaten. There were a few, like him, who were still there. Some had straggled in late, others had just decided to take their time. Quis, himself, had wandered in late after making sure to get a print job done and done right. He had managed to get the last of the bovine stew and was currently relaxing with a nice hot cup of klah.

"Journeyman," Thanja said as she passed the younger printer. "No more apprentices jamming machines today?"

Quistador finished the sip of klah he had taken and then smiled up to the master. "No, no jammed machines today, just a big printing job. I suppose I should count myself lucky. What about you?"

"The usual amount of hidework and people to see," she remarked casually without going into too much detail.

"In other words, busy." Quis motioned to the chair across from him. "Care to join me for a cup of klah?"

"I won't say no," replied the Hallsecond as she slipped into the seat opposite the Journeyman.

Quis took a long sip of his klah, then sat up. "So, anything interesting happen today?"

"We've had a few requests for apprenticeships, some meetings with the teaching Journeymen to review class progress. Lots of administration work today mainly."

"Sounds like an exciting day." Quis set down his almost empty cup and drummed his fingers upon the table. "I suppose that's better than having to fix a printing machine and getting behind in the work you had meant to be done."

"What happened to it this time?"

"Fortunately, it was just a jam." Quistador shook his head.
"Unfortunately, it was a pretty bad one, but I eventually got it. I just wish the apprentices would pay better attention. Maybe there should be a machine dedicated to just them."

"That's certainly an idea," thought the Hallsecond aloud. She lifted the klah that had been placed in front of her and blew on it gently to cool it slightly. "It is worth thinking about."

"Oh good, I feel better now. I thought you'd call me crazy." Quis grinned broadly. "Though, if they did have a machine and it got broken, they would just have to wait until someone could fix it before they could do anything else. We wouldn't have to worry about a backlog of work because a machine is out of commission."

"Write it up and submit it as a proposal."

"If you think it's a decent idea, then I will." Quis rested his arms on the table, leaning upon them. "Nice to know I'm not completely crazy."

"A little bit of crazyness helps sometimes. But I was serious, get it submitted and it'll be discussed by myself and the other Master Printers."

Quis nodded slowly, pondering over the matter. "I'll work on it tomorrow."

"I'll look forwards to seeing it, anyway," she continued as she put her now empty mug down. "I must get on with things."

"Too bad, it's always nice to enjoy the company of a fine lady." Quis picked up his own mug, just a little klah left, it sloshing against the sides. He lifted it in a salute to her.

She smiled in response as she left.
