"C'mon Gregha, it isn't much further," said Tanrin as they two apprentices walked down to the Harper Hall. "You must have seen my Ma about before now." He was sure not many people had missed spotting the Hallsecond, if only for the fact that she was a woman.

"Not really. Harpers." She shrugged. "Don't have enough time to be nosy about them as well."

"Don't let Ma hear you say that, she thinks a healthy does of curiosity is good for you."

"She _does_?" Grehga said, her curiosity aroused at the thought of such an attitude in an adult. "I feel sure I'm going to like her."

"She told me printing was all about finding things out, then sharing them with people," explained Tanrin.

"That it is," said his mother. "Were you headed my way, son?"

"We were," Tanrin flashed her a smile. "This is my friend Gregha."

"Hello Master Thanja. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm a very curious person," Grehga said, her eyes alight with amusement at the double meaning in her statement.

"Nice to meet you Gregha," Thanja smiled at her son's young friend.
"Are you also a healer?"

"Yes but from a dolphineer family," Grehga explained, knowing that her fellow apprentice was also in the craft that wasn't the one his family were part of.

"They're based at the Dolphin Hall here?"

"Most of them. My grandfather and grandmother, and my father and brother. My mother's dead," she said without concern, for she had never known the woman who had given birth to her. "But my aunty works here in the lower caverns."

"Well most of our family is here," began Thanja.

"Apart from Nytha and An'dr," butted in Tanrin. "They're dragonriders!"

Grehga frowned. "You haven't mentioned that before. Are they your siblings?"

Tanrin nodded, and Thanja elaborated. "Nytha's the eldest, and An'dr's my middle boy."

Grehga sighed. "I Stood." Then her amusement got the better of her.
"I don't know if I'll do it again. None of those dragons like the look of me ... and I'm not really sure I liked the look of them."

Thanja laughed. "I didn't think they'd like the look of my children, but they decided otherwise."

"Were you disappointed that they didn't become harpers - printers - like you?"

"Nytha walked the tables before she was searched, and An'dr had started an apprenticeship, but their life is different now."

"Hmm. And what about Tanrin?" Grehga asked, waving a hand at the young man beside her. "were you disappointed about him?"

"You always want wants best for your children," explained Thanja. "And that's waht makes them happy. Tanrin's happy as a healer, or at least I hope he is." She turned to study her son.

"I am Ma, better than I'd have been as a printer."

Grehga nodded. "My grandfather still thinks I should be a dolphineer."
She grinned. "And he had a _lot_ to say about me Standing for the Hatching."

"But if it makes you happy," Tanrin echoed his mother. "It's your choice, right?"

"Oh, I don't think he'd stop me, he just talks a lot. Lectures.
Discusses. Debates. Reasons with me. I think he likes words."

"Then maybe he should have been a printer!"

"I'll suggest it to him," Grehga said, laughing at the thought of her grandfather's reaction.

Thanja laughed too, it seemed that Tanrin was settling in and making friends. And most importantly he seemed happy.

"Tanrin said you might show me where the printery," Grehga said hopefully. While the subject matter didn't particularly draw her, she was willing to take a tour of anywhere. There was nothing she couldn't get interested in, if she tried.

"That can be organised, if you really want to see it that is."

"I _do_," the healer apprentice assured the master printer with a smile.
"Of course I do."
