"Thank you for bringing these reports," said Thanja to the young apprentice as he places them on the table. "It is appreciated."
"No problem," Figol replied with a smile, "it got me out to stretch my legs."
"Not out of classes I hope," she said, a mock stern look on her face.
Something about this lad reminded her of Tanrin a little.
Figol's smile turned into a grin, "Not out of a class I was _learning_
anything from".
"That's not really the attitude to have, you never know when something you hear in class might come in useful," admonished the Hallsecond. "It might not be now, or even for many turns but if it helps you then don't dismiss the class. Sometimes you just need to find a way to make the learning interesting."
From any other Master, Figol would have expected a good smack for the comment he'd given, but he knew Thanja was more tolerant... which was probably why he'd made the comment in the first place. "I know, you're right, of course."
"Trust me, turns of experience and watching promising apprentices grow and become fine Journeymen and women have proved that fact. If you are having difficulty with the class, speak to one of the Masters and see if you can get your schedule changed to when a different Master gives it. You might find that it makes a vast improvement in how you see the subject to have another teacher."
"Allright, but I do okay with it. It's mostly all stuff I already know anyways. I'm hoping to get to the more advanced class in a few months."
Figol was looking forward to actually working on compositions over talking about _theory_.
"No doubt one day soon we'll hear your compositions played, perhaps for a Turn's End concert."
Figol looked down and kicked an invisible rock with his boot. His compositions weren't very good in his opinion, but he couldn't seem to keep the tunes out of his head. "Maybe someday. You can hear me play in a gitar quartet this Turn though." he added proudly, he was the only apprentice in the otherwise journeyman group.
"I'll look forward to it."
"And the main apprentice vocal performance." he added with less enthusiam.
He didn't have any solos so it wasn't a very interesting experience for him.
"I'm sure once you get into it and rehearsals you'll enjoy it and do just fine."
Figol grinned, "Oh no mistake I'll enjoy it! Turn's End has the best food of the whole Turn!"
"We always make sure it's the best to make sure people remember Turn's End."
He nodded and added, "Hatching feasts might top it for some, but all the real tasty stuff is gone by the time us apprentices get the leftovers."
"In that case maybe I should let you get on to your next errands. Stop by the kitchens on your way and tell them I said you could have a bubbly pie."
He burst into a grin, "Really? Thanks!" Figol was out the door before she could change her mind, he'd have to make sure to run reports to Master Thanja more often!
