Sorsha's Dream

Description: Sorsha has a dream about her two possible futures.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 4

Sorsha shivered silently in her sleep. She was dreaming, and in that dream she stood on a bluff overlooking the gray ocean. The wind was strong making the waves crash higher and she had to brace herself from being blown over into the surf. She was cold; the spray had drenched her skirt and where it had once blown free, and it was now pasted like a second skin against her.

She turned to go back home, her father would wonder where she had gone to, but she was stopped by arms encircling her. It was I'lan. He wasn't in his riding gear, he was dressed more for a gather or perhaps a hatching, but all the same he was dashing. "What are you doing here?" she asked, breathless.

"I've come for you." He replied with a crooked smile that send shivers down her spine.

"You've come for me?" She'd waited so long for him to come for her...

He leaned down and kissed her mouth, sparks of electricity passing between them, "Yes, I want to take you to the Weyr where you belong. We can be together."

Sorsha sighed, this is what she'd wanted, "We'll be together forever?"

"Well," he said offhandedly with a shrug of his shoulders, "Until someone else comes along at least. Forever is a long time."

She stepped away from him, shocked by his callous statement. She felt another set of arms encircling her waist and she turned to find them belonging to Railen. He wasn't in fine gather clothes, rather he was dressed in his modest work clothes and he had a smudge of dirt across his forehead. "What are you doing here?" she couldn't understand how he was here, at Green Bend, when he should be at Willet Grove.

"I've come for you." Railen replied urgently as he held her tightly against him.

He was warm, so she huddled to his body against the cold spray of the ocean. "You've come for me?"

"Yes, I don't want you to go to the Weyr, you don't belong there. If you stay with me we can be together." He lifted up her chin so she was looking at him and bent his head down as he placed his lips gently against hers.

"We can be together forever?" She repeated her question from before.

Railen grinned down at her, "Of course forever. I love you!"

Sorsha opened her eyes to Raise jumping on Lenlee's bed, smacking her on the head with her pillow to try and wake her older sister up. When the little girl saw that Sorsha was awake her attention was diverted and she hurried over to her bed. "She won't wake up, and we have chores to do!"

"I'll get her up, you go and get dressed." Taking her own advice, Sorsha put on a dress, much the color of the one she was wearing in her dream, and roused Lenlee before heading out of the room. If she hurried, she could find Railen before he left the hold for the day.
