Not that Interesting

Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 12, day 20 of Turn 4

Figol looked around as he wandered aimlessly in the Weyr bowl. He would have thought the place would be deserted, as late as it was, but there was almost as much activity now as during the day. He'd almost decided to turn back to the apprentice dorms when he noticed a familiar girl approaching. "Hey there, you're not going to throw any pots at me are you?"

"Oh that was so funny I forgot to laugh." Sheste came to a stop at the familiar voice and face and wrinkled her nose at him. "What are you doing up?"

"Couldn't sleep. Why are _you_ up?" he countered.

"Inspiration struck and I had to answer." Sheste shrugged slightly. "If I don't, I generally lose it by morning."

Figol laughed, "I know that feeling, I've got this composition in my head and I can't get it out. What sort of inspiration struck you? A pot doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that once obsesses about."

"I do more than _just_ throw pots." Sheste placed her fists upon her hands. "I sculpt too."

He was intrigued, "Really? What did you end up sculpting?"

"Something." Sheste pranced past him, skirts teasing his legs. "It's not finished though, but I made a good start on it - enough to pick up where I left off."

"Oh." he watched he dance past him and turned to follow her movements. "Hey didn't you promise me a cup or something the last time we met?"

"A pot." Sheste shrugged. "You never came around to claim it. It's sitting under my bed."

"Sorry," he replied with chagrin, "Honestly, I didn't figure I'd ever hang out with you again. Jestyn's got a bit of a short attention span and he's- not that I didn't - oh shards, never mind." He'd better just close his mouth before he really shoved it in.

"I see. I guess I'm just not that interesting." The girl huffed and turned to make her way back. "I guess I'll see you around. Maybe."

Figol groaned, he'd done it now, why'd he have to even open his mouth. "No, hey wait. That's not what I meant. You're very interesting, I thought so from the beginning. That's why I even tolerated Jestyn's lame attempt at setting me up with you. Because I liked you. I just didn't think it'd go anywhere you know?"

"You didn't give it half a chance, now did you?" Sheste threw back, still walking away.

He caught up with her and matched her stride, "No I didn't, and I don't want to. I'm trying to focus on my studies, not on falling for someone. I just don't want you to think you're not interesting, because you are very interesting!"

"I never said you had to fall for me." The girl huffed and rolled her eyes. "But considering the fact that you didn't even look at me after that, it seemed you weren't even interested in friendship. So I guess, why bother?"

"Shards girl!" he barked, she was being beyond ridiculous, "You're making this into something it's not. And it's not like you were seeking _me_ out either."

"I guess then me waving to you in the dining hall a few days later and you pointedly ignoring me doesn't count." Sheste sniffed and tossed her hair behind her shoulder. "Why would I seek someone out who didn't even acknowledge me!"

"Well I'm blind then!" he exclaimed, it wouldn't be the first time he'd zoned out during a meal. "But I didn't ignore you on purpose."

"Look, we should both be in bed." Sheste stated after a moment, intent upon the hall. On purpose or not, she was still annoyed. "I've worked off my energy, I'm going to sleep."

She didn't seem placated, but if he really had blown her off then he didn't blame her. "I'll walk you to your dorm."

"You don't have to." The girl didn't slow down, though it seemed that Figol had no trouble keeping up with her. "Go work on your composition or something."

She _definitely_ wasn't placated. He gave up, and let he storm off without another protest. As he watched her go he realized Jestyn was right, he should have just stayed in bed.
