Briata

Briata

"To be a wife and mother." Briata nodded as if affirming her own words. "That's what I feel called to be. I suppose some may not consider it a great ambition, but that is my ambition and I feel it's just as important as being a healer, or a smith, or other crafter."

"You like children, then?" Ishek asked, intrigued by her. He knew that many women wanted to be a wife and mother, yet he also knew that because there were few other options, some only reluctantly chose it. "Raising a family is important." he told her.

"Oh yes, very important. I think it's one of the most important jobs there is." Briata concurred, "And I adore children. My mother died when my youngest brother was only one, so for a couple of turns, I was their mother. It was then I knew that's what I really wanted."

"I love children as well." Ishek admitted. "You must have been a wonderful influence on your family."

"Sometimes I wonder." Briata laughed once again. "I did the best I could, but Wenina, my second mother, is wonderful. I love her dearly. If you come visit us at the hold, you'll be able to meet her."

"I would enjoy visiting your Hold." Ishek said. "It would be nice to actually be able to _see_ more of the locations that look to me."

"Then why don't you?" Briata turned to look at the mingling crowd, then motioned to a rather tall, black haired man who was talking to another shorter and rather paunchy and balding one. "That's my father, the taller one. You could speak to him about it if you wish."

"When he's free, I shall see about that." Ishek replied. "Are you sure it wouldn't be a trouble?"

"Of course not." Briata hoped that her tone was encouraging to him. "My father is very social, and I'm sure he would be honoured by a visit to his hold. He's very proud of it and loves to show it off too."

"From what I've heard of it, it's a place to be proud of. Do you think it's prettier than the main hold? I know the outside can seem drab and lacking in life, but I know other areas of the region are gentler-sloped and greener."

"Oh, I must say, Garnet Valley has its own beauty." Briata's eyes twinkled merrily, "Of course, I'll always have a special place in my heart for Onyx Peak, though I not I most likely won't be there forever. But yes, Garnet Valley is lovely as well in its way."

"Well, even if you aren't there forever, surely you'll be able to visit
your home. Who would deny someone seeing their family?"

"Oh, I'm sure I will visit. I don't think I could marry a man who would
deny me that." Or a man who would deny that she was more than a pretty
face. Briata wanted to marry and have a family, but that didn't mean she
wanted to be denied respect either. "Do you have family in Garnet Valley?"

"Not in the Hold, no. My brother and his wife are at our family hold.
Miralani- she's my sister-" he added "married Hallmaster Daynar of the
Smith Hall, so she's living there. It's near enough that I can visit her
and my nieces on restdays, but I do miss having them closer."

"At least you can visit, that is something." Briata turned her gaze
back to the crowd once more, then leaned closer to say softly, "Would
you like to go outside for a while? Nothing seems to be happening here,
and I could use some fresh air." It was a little cool outside, but not
so much that a cloak wouldn't keep them warm.

"I would be honored to escort you outside." Ishek wasn't a crowd person
anyway, and surely no one could fault him escorting a young girl
outside, especially an unmarried one, who would need a chaperone.

"Why don't you get your cloak." Briata said before she turned and moved
to where she had lain hers over a chair. She took it up and placed it
over her shoulders, tying it, then returning to meet the Lord Warder.

"Maybe you can show me some of the places you like best." Briata
suggested as she approached him once again.

"Some of them are too far to walk to." Ishek said after he had retrieved
his own cloak. "At least, this late. But there's a nice spot nearby
among a copse of evergreens, and it has a small pond." he suggested.

"That sounds lovely." Briata drew her cloak a little tighter around
her. "Lead the way, my Lord."
