Numbers Make Her Head Explode

Writers: Cali, AL
Date Posted: 15th November 2008

Characters: Sorsha, Ri'len
Description: Sorsha and Railen go picking greens.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 12, day 19 of Turn 4

"Hey you." Sorsha said, sneaking up behind Railen as he leaned over the railing of the porch. "Want to go pick greens with me?"

"Sure." Railen straightened and stretched, then turned to Sorsha to plant a kiss upon her forehead. "Finished everything my mother threw at you?"

A kiss on the forehead wasn't enough for Sorsha, so she pulled him down for several short quick kisses on the lips. "Not even close. Those numbers will be the end of me, so I'm escaping to something I can actually do."

Railen let her break the kiss but hesitantly. "Are you sure you want to go pick greens?" He asked, his voice low as he bent down to nibble upon her ear. "I can think of something else we can do."

She playfully slapped at his chest and broke away from him. "Oh you. If I'm going to sneak out of lessons, it's for something productive."

"I'd say that was plenty productive." Railen grinned as he took her hand. "But if you insist, then let us pick some greens."

"With you helping, maybe we'll have time for a little of that _something else_ too." she teased as they walked towards the gardens.

"Is that a promise?" Railen's pace quickened and he tugged at his betrothed. "If that's the case, then we'd best hurry!"

Sorsha couldn't stop giggling as they picked the various herbs and vegetables they'd use over the next couple of days. They'd find any excuse to brush up against each other, to touch hands, and after a bit it wasn't even an excuse anymore, they just steal quick kisses and lean into each other as they worked. It was easy and natural, and everything Sorsha could have ever wanted for herself in a life and in a spouse.

"You know, you make me so happy." she told Railen as she tossed a tuber into a basket.

"I do?" Railen mimicked Sorsha by tossing one in after hers. "I would think you'd have tired of me by now. Though even if you had I think I would tie you up to keep you from leaving."

"If I ever try to leave you make sure you _do_ tie me up until I come back to my senses!" She said with a laugh.

"Well, perhaps you'll try to leave _because_ you've come to your senses." Railen stated with a chuckle. "Perhaps you've lost them already."

Sorsha tossed the tuber she'd been about to toss into the basket at Railen instead, "Then I'm happy to have them lost."

"Good." Railen took the opportunity to give her another kiss, though this one he made deeper and let it linger. "Because I want you, lost senses and all."

"And I want you," she replied, breaking the kiss but settling her forehead against his so they wouldn't be separated, "Kidnapper and all."

"Come on, let's finish these." Railen stated after a moment, lips curling up into a grin. "Then we can have some time together."

Sorsha chuckled as she pulled away and picked at the greens that had fallen out of her lap as she got distracted. "A few more tubers, then I should get back to my numbers. You've distracted me plenty for now."

"Numbers? Did I say I was going to subject you to numbers?" Railen shook his head as he plucked the greens from her grasp. "No my dear. You see, my mother will understand when I told her that I needed your valuable opinion on certain matters."

She sighed, though she didn't know if she really wanted to win this argument. "That's what you told her _last_ time. Karai says if I'm to become a lady of the hold I'll need to improve on my numbers and reading."

"I tell you what, I'll help you with them." Railen suggested. "The boys can do without me for a little longer. Then afterwards..."

"You are better than me at numbers." she agreed with a smile as she traced his jawline with her finger, "And the company would be nice."

"Maybe having good company will keep them from being so tedious, hm?" Railen leaned forward to give her another kiss, drawing her close to him. "And perhaps faster too." He stated once he broke the embrace. "Then we'll have more time for one another before dinner, hm?"

Sorsha grinned, "I don't know about faster, I have a feeling I'll be pretty distracted. But it'll be worth it to spend the afternoon with you."

"I can be a rather hard taskmaster if I need to be." Railen warned playfully as he stood, then offered his hand to her.

She took it, careful to keep the greens from falling back to the ground, and waited until Railen had picked up the basket of vegetables. "I'll believe it when I see it, you don't have a harsh bone in your body."

"You have only seen my soft side." Railen chuckled softly as he took Sorsha's hand, that time as a display of his affection for her. "Come on, the sooner we get to those numbers, the sooner we can get them done, the sooner we can do something fun."
