Description: The wonderful embarrassment of a first date. At least for the brownrider.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 4
Kitali was at the appointed place at the appointed time. When R'yin
arrived, he was greeted with a smile, the light shining in her eyes.
"I've been looking forward to this all day." The harper admitted with
a laugh.
R'yin was so nervous, he couldn't think straight. Aerrath had already
made quite alot of fun of him, and caused him to trip over his own
feet at least twice.
But he was happy, for the first time in a long time. Well... that was
not quite right. It just seemed that he was overdue for a little
female attention.
}:Very:{ Aerrath commented, causing R'yin to turn his head back
toward his brown dragon with a frown. Aerrath was crouched just
behind him, having just dropped him off at the beach.
He ignored his brown lifemate with the ease of long practice and
turned his warm, kind smile on Kitali. His brown eyes shone with
brightness, twinkling as he walked up to her. Her greeting almost
made him blush again. "Hi Kitali." His smile broadened at her
comment. "I've been looking forward to this for two days!" He winked
at her.
Over his shoulder was the carisak packed with all the things he had
gathered for their picnic. He had had to ask for help from the
Headwoman, but she had been very glad - and he was sure, very amused -
at his questions.
"Lets find a good place, lovely Harper."
"A compliment! You're starting the evening off right." Kitali eyed
the carisak with an amused eye, then approached the brown and patted
the warm hide. Dragonhide always was pleasant to feel and the
familiar spicy scent that seemed to surround each one greeted her.
Yet, each dragon, just like each person, had something of their own
scent. Aerrath, to her, had a warmer, muskier scent than most. "So
where do you suggest?"
Close to the crashing surf where they'd brought the children some time
ago, there was a bit of a comfortable looking spot with some large
rocks providing slight shade, but a great view. And some privacy!
"I'm a little out of practice, but I'm glad to know I got one thing
right!" He grinned at her, and then offered her his free arm. "How
about right there?" He pointed toward the rocks and started heading
that way. It would be comfortable with the fur he'd stuffed in the
bottom of the carisak.
"That looks like a great spot." A pang laced through her as she
thought about the last picnic she had taken - the one with M'van. So
much for that. No. She was moving on, just as he had moved on. Him
without her, her without him. R'yin was certainly quiet nice and he
seemed to have a gentler heart than M'van. That was certainly
refreshing. Kitali Slipped off her shoes, then laced her arm through
the brownrider's and walked along side him. Her feet sank into the
sand, the warmth from the day's sun still held in the grains. There
was a breeze that played at her hair, a few strands coming loose from
the bun she had pulled it into and tickling her face. "I hope your
day found you well."
Something crossed her face so briefly that he almost didn't see it,
but it passed, and he settled in to enjoy her company. He chuckled
as she slipped her shoes off and enjoyed the sand. He followed her
example, and they soon arrived at the chosen spot. He released her
arm and set the carisak down to begin taking things out of it.
As he spread the fur and the food, he smiled at her. "It was a good
day. It was a little cloudy today, so we flew some different sweeps
and then I mended straps all afternoon. I couldn't seem to settle
down to it though for some reason!" He grinned, and it was a little
boy's grin.
"Oh really?" Kitali lowered herself onto the fur, settling her shoes
at the sand and doing her best to wipe her feet on the edge to keep
most of it off of their place. She turned and regarded the brownrider
with a knowing smile. "I wonder what caused you to be so antsy.
Nothing bad, I hope."
R'yin pretended innocence, widening his brown eyes. "If I told you it
was a lovely Harper, would you believe me?" He smiled, but tilted his
head toward her, looking serious for a moment. "I haven't been out to
dinner with a woman.. in... well lets say.. turns."
"I find that rather hard to believe." Kitali reached over and plucked
a meatroll from the pile R'yin had lain upon a cloth. "You seem like
the kind of person women would _want_ to have dinner with."
He smiled a bit shyly, looking away from her for a minute, then he
said sheepishly, "I wouldn't know, Kitali. I haven't asked anyone to
dinner, and no one has asked me...Mostly there's Flights and Drills
and Wing get togethers, though I don't stay at those too long usually.
I guess I'm boring!"
"I'm pretty boring myself." Kitali admitted after finishing off the
meatroll and turned to gaze at the sky. "So I guess can just be
boring together." The harper looked back to the dragonrider, "So tell
me more about yourself, R'yin. Let's get to know one another better,
boring parts and all."
"You could not possibly be boring." he smiled at her and fixed himself
a plate of meatrolls and fruit. "I grew up on a minor hold beholden
to River Bluff, destined to inherit from my father. No siblings or
anything... " His eyes grew a bit unfocused. "I never thought I'd
wind up a dragonrider... and my father did not want me to go." He
focused back on her. "I wouldn't change it for anything... Aerrath
is.. well... its the same thing all dragonriders say. " His smile
returned then, as he spoke of his brown. He wouldn't say that his
father had never really spoken to him again after he'd left.
