Sorsha sat on the back porch, her eyes dried and achy as she watched the sun rise. She'd been awake for hours now, her dreams of dragons and the hatching had her tossing in her sleep until she'd given up and finally come downstairs. The dreams were getting worse and she didn't know how to stop them.
"You're up early!" Railen's voice was accompanied by the thump of his books against the wood as he walked outside. He turned when he saw his betrothed and made his way over to her, lips turned upward into a smile. That smile faded when he saw her face and how pale she looked. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," she tried weakly to smile, "I just had bad dreams is all."
"Bad dreams?" Railen drew closer and encircled his arms around her. He gently rested his chin atop her head. "What sort of dreams?"
Sorsha leaned into him, his arms made her feel safe and protected. It was a nice feeling to have and she'd needed it last night. "Just bad dreams, I feel better now that you're here."
"You should have come and awoken me. I would have stayed up with you until you fell back asleep." Railen was afforded his own room so they wouldn't have had to worry about anyone else. Of course, if someone had seen her...well, they were going to get married soon anyway.
She shook her head, "I've been having them for awhile now. At first they were just dreams of the Weyr, but now they're of the Hatching too. I feel so anxious and I don't know, afraid maybe? I'm probably just worried for Lenlee, she's all alone there."
"J'far is there." Railen let his fingers slide lightly over her arm and kissed her on the top of her head. "He said he'd look out for her."
"I know." she replied. "They're just dreams, they don't mean anything."
"But they are disturbing you." Railen released his hold to turn her around in his arms. "If they happen again, come get me, all right?"
Sorsha nodded, she had no intention of letting her restless nights ruin Railen's sleep. He worked hard all day and needed to rest. "Would you like some klah? I was going to get started on breakfast soon anyway."
"Sorsha," Railen tucked a finger beneath her chin and gently urged her to look at him. "Come to me if you have any more nightmares, all right? If you don't promise, I might just have to stalk your room."
That got her to chuckle, despite her tired coldness. She leaned over and nuzzled his neck, giving him a quick kiss there. "Okay, I promise."
"Good." Railen gave her a peck upon her cheek and flicked her nose gently. "I tell you what, I'll help you with breakfast. It will probably give my mother a shock, but this way I can make sure you don't burn anything because you're so tired."
Sorsha gave her betrothed a wary look over. "Help? Have you ever so much as stirred a pot?"
"I've stirred a pot." Railen stated seriously. "Actually, when I was little, mother would let me help her. Of course, that was quite a few turns ago..."
"Well then, let's see how much you remember." She smiled and took his hand as they headed towards the kitchen.
